Re: gas shock stud How do you get it of the strut?

Remove the hood strut where it attaches to the fender.

Once loose, hold the strut firmly and hit it sharply with a hammer just below there the stud is bolted to the hood. The strut will "pop" off the ball stud.

It may take a couple of attempts.

Prying and twisting do no good.

If you have a vise, remove the bottom bracket, unscrew the ball stud at the hood (with strut attached)

Tighten the ball stud into the vise and use the hammer as before.

If you are really lazy, just buy a new ball stud.

Are you using OEM struts or aftermarket?

oem. I tried the vice and on hood wack with a hammer, but the nut pops out of the vise. any tighter and I might distort the nut. Really stubborn. Would NAPA have a suitable stud? Subaru wants $7+ each!

UPDATE!
Went to try one more time and they popped right off. I guess having the confidence that i was dong the right thing let me do it with conviction. Install went great. Did the trunk struts last week. Now both ends ship shape.
