Crankshaft socket

The Subaru Part is about $75...yikes! I need the socket to position the pistons correctly.

I've looked online and came across a number of aftermarket sockets for about $15, but they need the inner diameter size of the crankshaft snout to ensure proper fitment (checked the svx manual without much luck ).

It's a Subaru specific tool that locks into the woodruff key on the crank to allow it to be turned to locate the wrist pins, which in turn lets you remove them and then the pistons. Looks like this:



What I've always done to rotate the crank is just install the crank pulley bolt finger tight and use it to turn the whole assembly. Just keep turning to the right, unless there's something very wrong with your rotating assembly it won't tighten up much turning and can easily be snapped loose after.

^That's what I did when I did the timing belt last time.

Im just a stickler for detail and have quite a collection of svx specific engine tools and was lpoking to add to it.

That tool is pointless, and a waste of money. The crank pulley bolt is the best option. I don't see any need to stress the woodruff key more than necessary.
