|
AC compressor never shuts off??
Well, when Im using the climate control that is. Isnt it supposed to turn off?? I can have it in the 80's and the compressor will still be turning... Whats the deal here? My 92 doesnt do that, it shuts off in the first few 70degs....

I made a post in another thread on climate control (search) and included some PDFs from the factory manual on doing the climate control tests... Maybe someone should stick them in the repair section?

Just as an FYI. About the time our cars were new, one of the "improvements" to climate control was a continuously running compressor. The compressor runs all the time, and you just add heat to get the desired temperature. Going over to the "econ." setting turns off the compressor. It's not condusive to the best fuel economy, but at least you don't have the "clunk" of a compressor cycling on and off. Both the SVX and my Alfa work that way, my Capri cycles the compressor, and damm near kills the engine when it comes on.

I work on building air conditioning and the compressors never shut down no matter what temperature setting is applied. I'm not sure about our cars, but it sounds normal to me.
