Rear Main Seal

So I had a mechanic friend look at my oil, he said it was my rear main seal and to try some sealant stuff first. He said it might work worth the $10, I wanted to ask if anyone has had to replace it and how much it would cost I know the engine has to be removed in my car as it is FWD right ?

I just replaced mine. I took the trany out to do it. The seal is like $25, but it took me about 8 hours to r & r the trany, clutch, and flywheel to get to the seal. Its kinda a pain to get the new seal in. At lest it was for me.

While you are in there, reseal/replace the access cover as well, those like to leak, and if it's the plastic one, get the replacement metal one from the dealer (They're like $12)
