Subaru Turbo

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=31869
Check out thiss old Subaru turbo. What do you guys think it's worth? I like it and am intrigued by what seems to be a car even rarer than the SVX, and cheaper. How do you think this turbo would handle in the snow, and what kind of gas mileage would it get? thanks

$3k or in that ballpark depending on condition.
It is fabulous in the snow. Parts aren't impossible to find but it isn't the same engine as the US built Legacy (all the Gen I turbo Legacies were made in Japan).
It does require Premium gas too and doesn't get the best gas mileage (about 20-22mpg on average).
They are a blast to drive (even with the auto there isn't a ton of lag). Many argue it is the best engine Subaru ever made. It isn't quite as fast as the SVX. Maybe a second off 0-60 but it feels quite fast when the turbo makes its whine.

Thanks for the info, yeah I'm turning 16 and lookforward to driving a subaru, preferrably the SVX Which car would handle better in the snow? I'd think the SVX mite, and plus it looks 10 times cooler and parts are probably a little easier to find. Definately taking the subie snowboarding once a weekend. So gas mileage is about even on both cars?

Those old Legacy Turbo's are sweet and very moddable. It'll make a great first car. Most Legacy's handle great in the snow, but the Turbo version may be it bit more tricky, as the spooling turbo could cause a rush of torque to the wheels resulting in a spin.

I've heard of lead-foot STI/EVO owners spinning in the snow under similar circumstances...

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing, what does it top out speed wise? Maybe I'll have less of a chance of wrapping it around a tree than the svx.

Hey, hey, hey... Be nice to the safety features of the SVX. I, personally, am a true testament to the fact that SVXen do not wrap around trees very easily. I was involved in a hit and run in my last one (which I miss terribly! ), which resulted in the car hitting three trees. And that thing didn't wrap one bit!

Most of those early-to-mid 90's Legacy's had a top speed limiter of around 120mph. However, with a simple ECU upgrade, it can be removed.

None of the first gen legacy's have a governer, turbo or na. They're limited by power, theoretcially a manual turbo should be able to hit 162, and an auto turbo 173. Then again theoretically the svx should be able to hit 210

Also I would have to think the legacy would handle better in the snow. And just FYI parts are easier to find for the legacy than the svx.
