Question Front differential questions

I just bought a diif for my car but the mechanic says it will take him eight hr.s to
it in and $560. Is this a rip off, especially since that is just to put the diif in not the fluids or anything. Any responses would be grateful

I don't have access to the labor books, but it seems somewhere in the ballpark. Transmission has to come out and the differential replaced, then have to set gear preload, etc before getting it all back together. Fluids are on the trivial end of the deal.

Since you're going to this much trouble, are you looking into any of the transmission internals, maybe a pressure test, or ?
