Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
Good luck,
One more tip: When you are cutting your material it looks like a lot more than what it turns into wet. You need to cut about 3 times as many layers as you think you need looking at it dry. |

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
Tony, if you have specific questions regarding this airbox and composite just ask away. I'd type up a post here for you but it would end up pages long by the time I finished.
That mold isn't really setup for vacuum bagging at this point. I can go into detail if necessary. It could be done but would be a trick with alot of pleats and combination bag materials Definitely a learning curve for this technique so don't get discouraged by this. Rollers are not necessary on a part of this size and one where weave visual isn't a concern. A standard 4" flexible spreader would work just fine. Rollers work the nuts on large square footage, like when I'm making a kit car body. |

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
Hi Adam,
As I understand it I could do the vacuum by 2 methods, suck the resin in after pulling the vacum throught the same hose or put the mat and resin in the mould then pull the vacuum and then the resin will go into the matt is that right? Tony

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
Here is the first attempt, the black pockets are from the fact that the pigment didn't mix and I was concerned with cure time so I decided to go without it mixing first.
The second image shows the problem I had because I didn't do the sides with small pices of mat (got to keen). What I am suprised about is the job came out better then I thought it would also its as tought as brick Sh-- house so that concern I had was unfounded. One thing for sure if I take on the advise that Mike gave me I can see the way to sucess. Have a great day all. Tony

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
What I worked out I need to do is make a internal mould for were the seal gasket goes between the 2 halfs of the airbox. Then after puting in the glass & resin I should be able to clamp the internal mould and the surface for the gasket should be perfect. It would be to big of a job to do it for the whole mould so I will only worry about it in that one spot.
My problem is I am out of time I have 5 days till I leave on holidays and still have to find the problem with the left knock sensor. Tony

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
Okay back from holidays and doing a heap of work on the SVX as mention else were.
Now I haven't done anything on the throttle bodies but I have been busy buying things. I am waiting for the last item to arrive then I will post a picture of my shopping. Tony

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
All, I dyno'd the car with the following spec today FYI:
Standard engine ITB's Headers/extractors Megasquirt standalone. Disappointingly only made about 150hp at the wheels. Not sure what Jack Laverty did to get his so high on a standard motor with headers only. Haven't got the chart...but hope to. Matt |

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
I think the Cams are the issue but I would have to agree with you that I thought it would make more.
Whats the conversion to HP at the engine? Tony

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
Hi Bill...my recollection of Jack's first pass was he just had headers and a standalone...remember back when we first heard about it? I thought in that spec the cams etc were all stock? Where's Bob when you need him!!
I think you're right about the cams Tony too...it's showing about 160hp at the wheels. Blech. M |

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
A completely stock SVX with the 4eat should make about 150-160whp...

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies and Improved Airflow
Exactly my point...and my problem.
I would have thought that with headers and ITB's we should have seen some improvement. Queue Harvey's thoughts on the VE of the standard manifolds...he's right again!!! :P Matt |

I would imagine it would be a dog to drive as it is. It has lost the Inertia torque, and the match between the inlet tract length and the cam duration. The shorter throttle body tracts will be working up at about 6000, without the cams to support them, and the cams are working down at 4800, without the resonate inlet tracts for support. Put the heads with the longer duration, high lift, cams back on, with the exhaust and the shorter throttle bodies, and it will all chime together. Harvey.
