Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace
There is a short bolt that holds one of the metal tubes to the right side of the pump. Those 2 short L shaped hoses you disconnected, follow up the small one and you will see the 10mm headed bolt attaching it to the pump.

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace
You may be able to do it by loosening the rear cover, but it is definitely easier after you remove the cam.
Also maneuvering the water pump back into position with gasket in place is much easier without the obstructions.

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace
Can I see a shot of this from say 2 feet away so we can see the front of the motor. I am confused as to what you did and did not remove .

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace
Cam gear is off. I used an interesting (to me) way of holding the cam gear while I unscrewed the bolt. Using the old timing belt. I wrapped the belt around the cam gear then when it was wound around I passed a breaker bar in the loop at the end tightened the belt (the breaker bar was across the bottom of the frame) and turned until the bolt came loose. There was a little creaking of the belt... but it was relatively quick and painless....
Spent some time while the gasket goo was setting on the water pump gasket cleaning things under the engine... took the reservoir off the power steering pump and looked at the o ring... will be replacing that tomorrow Took a picture of the old water pump.. You can see the discoloration of the pulley where it got heated by the belt sliding over it while it was seized. This one is upside down but you can see the cam gear removed and the 10mm bolt that makes it so that you MUST remove the back cover plate. It also makes it very easy to unclamp the hoses...

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace
This again shows the old waterpump with the scorching on the drive pulley. moral to this.... if you see coolant leaking from the waterpump area...don't wait... change the pump....it's borked......

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace
Did very little today... cleaned the gunk off the power steering pump and put the new o ring on... put the waterpump back on and the rear cover and cam gear...
but here is an interesting find... I found online (while I was looking at the torque specs for the waterpump) I'm not sure how ethical this is..but I found it... 1992 Subaru SVX service manual in PDF form... I downloaded them all and put them on a DVD. here's the link.. follow it at your own risk. http://phantomotaku.com/SVX/ The root URL is An Anime Community but type /svx at the back...and you get the PDFs.... again...not sure of the legality...so you go there at your own risk.

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace
ok.... the water pump is in...the timing belt is on... correctly, alternator back on. steering pump back on (with new o ring). bolts torqued to spec...radiator filled tranny cooler hooked back up.. and car started.... sounds better than it has for a long time. still on the blocks ...going to flush cooling system, change oil and check tranny fluid...
and.... this is a bit surprising... no CEL ....... (THAT has me a bit concerned) It came on and stayed the first two times I started it...but then unlike before...it stayed off...even after I let the engine cool down.... I started it about 20 times...and no CEL.... I hadn't checked the codes..but was almost positive it was going to be the o2 sensor... Now.... any Ideas? today's pics....
