Land Speed Racing

My SVX has just become my daily, and I've realized just how great it is on the highway. It rides well, and it has traction, power, and not a lot of drag.

I wanted to go Lemons racing, but being 20 and in school, I have the crap car with my old Legacy, but not much more, so that's out for a few years.

The ECTA runs a standing mile in Ohio, and I would really love to see what the SVX can do with a mile of smooth as glass asphalt. From some testing and some math, I believe 150 MPH would be a decent goal for a stock SVX.

I don't plan on doing this until the mechanicals of the car are back in top shape, so no, I don't plan on flying down this runway spewing oil everywhere

My question:

Has anyone done this before?

Thoughts?

Re: Land Speed Racing

PM me for details, I am not going public with with numbers as to promote possibly illegal road trials. In 2015, if we pass safety, we hope to take the race SVX down south to Nevada for the Silver State Challenge, and the week following is Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Re: Land Speed Racing

What is the SVX Govnored at? I thought it was lower then 150mph. I know my 2010 Camaro SS shuts down at 155mph and the V6 Camaro LS shuts down at 135mph. They shut down at those speeds because of the factory tire ratings. If you get a V6 Camaro with the RS option, it gets the same wheel and tire combo as the SS and the electronic cut off is bumped up to 155mph.

I thought the SVX was limited to135mph, also (factory). obviously if you wanted to go faster, you'd have to get the ECU reprogrammed.

Re: Land Speed Racing

I realize this is an old thread...

But I have exceeded 150 mph via GPS on a closed course road before. And that was when the car was stock. Not that another 20 or 30 hp really adds to the top speed, but it doesn't hurt!

Re: Land Speed Racing

It's been a while but I seem to recall that in the ECU decoding thread the guys actually found a limiter value, but it's something completely absurd and impossible (like hundreds of MPH). There's an old Youtube vid of an SVX on the autobahn with the speedo right up at 160.

Re: Land Speed Racing

Unplug the speedo sensor (you will get a code) but the car will not rev limit or cut...
