Strange engine problem, need help
Ocassionaly, right after I start to run my car it behaves strangely.
So i'll turn it on and drive it for like 10 seconds when it suddely starts to shutter and jolt. Then it dies. After that it takes a few tries to restart and then if I shift it into Drive or Reverse it dies instantly. So I have to turn it on and let it idle for a few minutes before I can drive it without it stalling. Then it runs a little crappy but after a little time it runs fine. It only does this ocassionaly and it's only started doing it since I installed ECUTune Stage 1. Any ideas? THanks! --Mike

Yes that's the most likely problem. This problem really starts popping up as temperatures start to get down to freezing.

temperatures aren't approaching freezing yet but it's definitely started to get colder. I ordered the sensor from AUtoZone yesterday as it was only $20. I did a little research and I may also try resetting my ECU. IT may be upset after the new ECUTune.

I replaced the sensor and it still has the problem. It starts up cold and acts fine but as soon as I put it in gear (R, D) it dies. I have to idle for a while before it'll run ok.
It's not the air filter.

Do you guys have any other ideas???
I drove it yesterday morning and at the first stop sign I got to it shuddered to a halt and died. After that it took a long time to start back up, and another long time before I could put it in gear and drive it without it stalling. I really need your help guys!

Sweet thanks, i've never done that before.
It's throwing codes 23 and 29: Air Flow Meter and Crank Angle Sensor. How difficult are these things to fix/replace? I assume it's the latter (29) that's causing my problems. What is the air flow meter? Is that the MAF?

I haven't replaced either but I would guess the MAF is easier to replace. Neither should be difficult though.

The MAF should be that big square thingy that sits on the big ol plastic tube thingy that comes out of the air box that has your air filter in it....should be easy to replace ( I think )

No i really don't think it's a MAF problem.
Does anyone know the part # for the Crank Angle Sensor 2? How hard is it to replace once I have it? --Mike

Looks like p/n 22053AA020 168.00 bones on subaruparts.com
Not sure how difficult to replace...I have never had to yet..Prob. have to take the timing belt cover off to see it I think. It should be located at the front center of the engine. |
