AutoWeek February 23rd
Quoting from the February 23rd issue of AutoWeek magazine;
"The year is 2021. It’s Scottsdale, Arizona, at the 50th annual Barrett-Jackson auction, an event linked to car lust and portfolio building. .................................................. ................................ In rapid succession come three Japanese hopefuls: A Suzuki X90 ultra-mini box that was overly expensive and underly utilitarian for the day (or at any other time), a Mitsu Colt twin-stick-shift pocket rocket racer and a Subaru SVX whose double-hung side windows made not just ventilation but breathing a challenge. Someone holds a soft spot for the Suzuki as it goes for a staggering $5.9 million (yes, only a handful remain intact). The Mitsu sells for $4.6 million and the Subaru draws $2.8 million."

At least you could get one for less than the others.

you are a rich, rich man. That seems super ridiculous though. 2021 is only 15 years from now and the value rises 1000%?

I don't remember AutoWeek making many positive comments about our cars back when the SVX first hit the streets. Only in the past few years have they begun to rate Pacific Rim cars on a par with European models, and then only rarely. This entire article was meant to be a joke, about how even the "worst of the worst" cars, over time seem to bring amazing prices in the world of car collectors. It probably bashes the intelligence of car collectors more than anything else. I tend to agree, the SVX aside, since I've watched cars that were practically worthless when new bring sky high prices as they pretend to be collectibles in today's market. What was it P. T. Barnum said? Forever true.

What's that saying, "Mockery is the best form of flattery" or something?
I like that nobody knows what we have...pun intended. |
