Want - GPS/DVD/Radio/stereo that fits.

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...gation/DNX5120

I saw this in my Crutchfield mag that I get sent for some reason I'll never understand. This is the kind of thing I would like to have in my SVX to replace the POS unit I have now.
I was ready to buy one when I looked up the dimensions that neither the magazine nor the site supplies. It's Width: 7.2 in Height: 4.4 in, or so, and I measured my space as a very tight 7x4.
I guess it's possible that size includes what looks to be a removable surround, but I can't tell. I don't know if sizes are universal or vary per manufacturer.

So, does anyone out there have something like this or know of something similar? I don't need GPS or DVD, it's just nice to have those things to update the interior.

Re: Want - GPS/DVD/Radio/stereo that fits.

Hey,

I install car stereo equipment for a side business and I just thought I would let you know that in my svx I have the Pioneer AVIC-D3. It is a Nav/DVD/CD/iPod unit. It fits perfectly in the dash, but you will need to fab a piece to cover the bottom metal fittings because the tray cover does not close when putting a double-din radio in...the screen will stick out too far.

Any of the Pioneer D or F series fits perfectly. The Z series is a little wide. You might also try the Kenwood 5120. I am a Pioneer person, so I am a little biased. haha!

Hope that helps!

Neat! I searched that model, went to the Pioneer site and it has a fitment "guide".

Now I just need to find out what "DIN" means.

Dounle Din or Single Din

just the size of the unit ...umm besit idea is
this is what a double din looks like

http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...uble+din&gbv=2

and this is a single DIN

http://images.google.com/images?gbv=...f&q=Single+din

We can do either just depending on the measurements of the unit your installing...I have a single DIN with infiniti Kapas but i am thinking about a double DIN upgrade though once everything is in working order on my car.

Yeah I figured that out but I guess I didn't realize that that was the name for the standard. I thought it had something to do with the connectors.

The Pioneer AVIC-D3 and Kenwood DNX5120 seem pretty much identical.

Am I going to need to buy a harness from someone on the site to hook this up?

The DIN standard for car audio units is specified in DIN 75490 (or ISO 7736). The measurements for Single DIN audio units are - 180mm by 50mm. The measurements for Double DIN audio units are 180mm by 100mm.

FYI: DIN is actually an acronym for Deutsches Institut für Normung, the German Institute of Standards. As Germany's ISO member, they have set/adopted a ton of standards which have been adopted internationally. As such, they have specified standards for commonly used connectors, such as MIDI and PS/2 cable connectors, as well as many other products, including paper! If you are musician, you are familiar with 1U, 2U, 3U, and 4U 19" rackmount sizes for effects and synthesizer modules, as well as rackmounted computer systems - DIN 41490-SC48D.

How do I know all of this crap? I'm a musician who designs and builds computer-based music systems, so I have to know what fits where and how, and what plugs into what. I use components from all over the world. I also happen to know about the DIN 476 A-sized paper standard because I have two infrared mini printers that use that weird sized paper, but it's thermal (fax) paper, which is an absolute b**ch to find for a reasonable price.
Anyway, just thought I'd answer your question.
