Re: rear bearing replacement
They aren't sealed. The grease they come in is a shipping grease which is insufficient for the bearing so it is suggested that they be repacked.

Re: rear bearing replacement
i believe this repacking thing might be old news i cant seem to locate any of the TSB's about this issue any more and when I did mine I was told that repacking is not necessary by my instructor... but don't quote me

Re: rear bearing replacement
If you want to replace your rear bearings again, then go ahead install them out of the box. The come packed with a shipping grease which is exactly what that means. When you get the bearings, wash out the packing grease with a good brake cleaner and let them dry, then repack with a good quality synthetic grease like Amsoil (which I used) or what ever else you can find. I packed them by hand, real messy, wear gloves, and use a bowl, and make sure you pack them well, and they should last a long time, assuming they are installed properly and are a good quality bearing like Timken. Good Luck!

Re: rear bearing replacement
Repack them. Members who have had them replaced and didn't have them repacked had to do it over in about 5,000 miles.
