Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

More a three day story, had to work through a series of steps. The rusted out sunroof tray is gone and a good one is in. Primed and ready to paint the new roof panel. Discovered a loose timing belt while poking around and it's 50 miles old! The tensioner plunger was stuck in a partly deployed position and I could freely spin the tensioner...not good. (Note: replace the tensioner plunger when you do the rollers /belt/ water pump- not worth saving a few bucks) After playing with the original and finding it's operation suspect, ordered a replacement. Before the road, I'll replace the rear diff fluid and service the tranny. Everything else should be good and if it rains or wash the car, no water inside anymore. Things are looking up for the Ol' girl!

On Legacy 3.0R: Changed a rear wheel bearing. The other side was frozen even after using heat and a slide hammer. Picked up a arm puller and will be trying that next

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Revived my old original remote with a new battery and face. I also have a newer old stock one, but couldn’t get the car into programming mode. Anyway, my one remote is back in business.

I also replaced the hood shocks with some “Lift Support Depot” specials that I bought via Amazon.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Pulled the right door card to investigate the non-functional window... discovered a broken "SLEEVE-LOCK REGULATOR", 62101PA081 and the dreaded "THIS PRODUCT IS NO LONGER AVAILABE" Anyone have a solution/replacement for this $0.50 plastic part?

Also discovered there was no surround left on the 27 year old front speakers. Replaced the holely remains with a set of 6.5" Cerwin Vega. Now there is bass from the front doors again.

There is a member making 3-D printed ones, but I don't remember who it was...

If not already being done, I have a spare to loan for digitizing.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Hi,

I offered to create a model for it, but nobody was able to offer up an example or pictures for me to work from. Having possession of an original would be great, or I could try from photos if somebody was to provide accurate measurements.

I could create a model and print it, then send the part to somebody who has a need for one. They can provide some feedback on fitment/size. (I don't really want to take my doors to bits until I really have a need to repair them.)

Otherwise I'll wait until mine fails, then develop and test one.

Not sure what the longevity of the 3D printer chips will be. Also, I tend to print in PLA basic it's easy and doesn't smell bad. But it might be better to use a stronger plastic like ABS or PETG (or other exotic plastic). Perhaps we could do a group buy from shapeways.com one we know the part works/fits.

Cheers,
Ian.

We should probably move discussion to the sticky Tech thread...

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I finally got round to replacing my knock sensors, I tried the approach here:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17952
I did work, but it was a lot of hassle... took a hour for my big fat hands to connect the drivers side sensor...

I'll post some photos if they came out ok (maybe it'll help somebody else save a few minutes here an there)..

Car sounded much better with the new knock sensors, and the CEL didn't come one (although it may need a longer drive to get enough data to detect a problem). There is still a tap on one cylinder, hopefully that's just old oil in making the hydraulic lifter stick (I forget the proper name of the bit) and it will clean up itself after a little drive.

Next I'm going to try to get it to pass smog and get the registration done.

I've got a lot of ambitious plans for this car, and very little time to work on it. I'm starting to think I should pay for somebody to the work rather than have it sitting waiting for me to get some free time...

Cheers!
Ian.

I may be mistaken, but I believe a member posted a while back that there are identical sleeve lock regulators on the rear windows... maybe a swap would be a good temporary fix until 3D printing happens...
Someone chime in here, am I misremembering...?

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

My 96 was throwing a P0305 code recently with a flashing check engine light for a misfire in the #5 cylinder. So I replaced the spark plug and coil pack which cleared the issue up. While I had that side of the engine exposed I went ahead and did the same for #1 and #3. When I get time in the next few weeks I will tackle the driver's side and do the other 3. Also flushed and re-filled my coolant since I don't know when the previous owner had last done so.
