Re: SVX LED Taillights

As far as headlights and waterfall grill are concerned, as others have mentioned, something very similar to audi's setup where the individual LED's are clearly visible along the bottom portion of the headlights.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

In order to accomplish something like this, I'd say your best bet would be to use a LED strip, faced outward toward oncoming drivers. The only issue I see is that the headlights are not too clear, so you might not get that individual LED effect you are expecting.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

The idea of LED tail lights sounds great to me, as far as the waterfall grill and/or headlights goes... not sure, especially if it's the Audi look. Looked great on the R8 but once they started introducing it to the lesser models, it lost it's appeal IMO.

What could look smart though, is clear HID headlights with halo's... something like BMW's....

(My tens cents for whatever it's worth)

Re: SVX LED Taillights

I had actually talked to Gaddis about a HID projector retrofit. The retrofit would be a lot easier in these headlights, since the projector is already there. The idea would be find a nice HID projector, and make an adapter plate to fit the new projector in the housing, and then any necessary trimming to the headlight housing. If I attempt this, I'd provide complete instructions for anyone to be able to do it themselves.

But for right now, I'm going to stick to the LED taillights, until I have that all set.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

I ordered all the LEDs for the SVX LED prototype today. They should be here in a couple days for me to start placing on the custom circuit boards I'll be mocking up in a couple days.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

Thats awesome...

What I was thinking as far as LED lights for the headlights was something along the bottom outline of the headlight... that would light up when the sidmearkers are on...

I thought of this as well, even just doing it myself experimentally with the cheapie ebay LED light strips. I already have the Smallcar clear lenses so the LEDs would actually show up Audi-style and it would be easy to put them in and out since the clear lenses come off and on easy.

But I noticed there isn't much room there, the SVX headlight housings are 'just' big enough to fit the projector and other lights and a strip on the bottom could interfere or look wrong. Plus, if I just tapped into the sidemarker wires, the LEDs would stay on with the headlights which in the tight quarters would also probably look weird.

Re: SVX LED Taillights

I can recommend yo uguys some LED strips, but there's not too much I can do in that department. I can basically just take the LED strip, solder on some wires, and show you where to put it.

The cut off and clearity of the OEM projectors actually are pretty great. It's mostly our front housing lense that's killing us! I mean you've seen my 4300k 50W HID's in my low beams. Would be nice though to maybe change over to like a S13-esk set up with the highs getting a projector(probably just switch the lowbeam OEM to the high's position) and a nicer projector for the HID lows. But that'd be a different thread. This is for the tail lights. Maybe expand it to the turn signals too. I"d love to work out something special for the front turns. YOu know like I want to do my V4 turn signals(or should I say OUR V4 turn signals once you set up the new bumper from me.) Want to forward me some pics of your thoughts of layout for the boards? It might work nice to have specificly two designs for with the diffusers and for without. Some people might want ot leave the diffusers in for what ever reason.
