Wheel weights: on rim or taped inside
Just had my rims straightened and painted during the summer. When I had the balancing done I insisted that the weight be tapped on the inside instead of having them muck up the outside of the rim. Plus I think it looks better with out those ugly weights on the outside. Any noise out there on the differences???

Mine aren't "taped." They're regular balance weights, but, installed on the inside. Gives the wheel a cleaner look, IMHO.

Taped weights for the street for looks and clamp on to race with so the glue doesn't melt.

I have the regular weights. And I have two 'perfectly balanced' wheels with no weights.

they still put the weights on both sides of the rims but the outside weigths are thin strips with adhesive that are aplied just on the closest edge just inside the rim.

There are the tap ones on the outside, but on wheels like mine, you can't use the outside weight, it HAS to be put on from the back or brake side of the wheel, depends on the lip, and whether you dislike the look of them. these are not taped one, but rather very similar to the tap on from the outside, but it hooks on to something on the inside of the wheel.

For me, the question is "Where should I have wheel weights?"

my dad works as a tire/wheel installer salesman and he does em on the outside mostly. he will put them on the inside if it is an aftermarket rim of anykind because it will scrath the rim easily if it is where the rim and sidewall meet.

Besides looking clunky and possibly marring the rims, clip-on weights can also cause corrosion (pitting).
I always have my balancing done with tape weights. |

I just got custom rims. This is the first time I've had them taped on the inside. I'm not fond of it. The rims have reletivly small spokes and theres a large group of wieght right in between two of them were you can see them plain as day. I dont know how confedent I am that they'll stay. Especally if I lose my mind and try a high speed jont up the parkway.
