1972 Mercury Capri. 4 cyl, 4 speed. A stylish package that burned oil at an alarming rate, up until a 4' diameter tree truck jumped out in front of it.
Ah, the memories! Last edited by gsodonis; 08-09-2007 at 08:20 PM. |

subi-crosser on wifes puter,
my first car I bought AND drove was a 61 Galixie convertable. Gave $100. for it in 1972, It was an X drag car and had the crap kicked out of it mechanically, but the body was flawless! I bought a wrecked 66 ford and transfered all driveline componants to it and put a new white top on it. I haven't seen the car since yesterday, when I walked into my garage. It has 300k on it now and is stripped to bare metal and primed. My 35 class reunion is in 2 years and I hope to have the resto-work completed by then! Jerry |

My mom told me when I was little that she bought her 86 Cutlass Supreme for me on my 3rd birthday and intended to give it to me, but by the time I turned 12 it was in pretty crappy condition (thanks, Alaska...).
We lived in Florida for the 8 years prior and the car was always in excellent condition, but as soon as we moved here things started breaking. So when I turned 14 (1996) she got me a 92 Mitsubishi Precis. P.O.S., but immaculate considering it was only 4 years old. Not that I knew any better. I knew nothing about cars until summer of 2000 I bought an 88 XT6 off my then step-dad, at which point I became a Subaru fan(atic). The Precis was borrowed by someone and t-boned by a van summer '98. First motorcycle came to my from my step dad late '98. 81 Honda CM400 Hondamatic 2spd Custom.

First car
Hi everyone, Well someone had to have a first car that will really set you back. How about a 1949 Ford coupe. Had a flat head V-8 with a three speed on the column plus overdrive. A Laycock de Normanville overdrive. They don't have catchy names like that anymore. My dad had it first. Then my mom. And then me. When I got done with it we sold it to a kid down the street. Take care, BOBB

My first was a Good Humor ice cream truck in 77. Still have it too!!! Granted you have to push it with your feet and it as a few cracks in the plastic but she still rolls

Not counting Dad's Buicks, the first ride was a well used turquoise & white '53 Olds 88 coupe.
[QUOTE=Mr. Pockets]I suppose my first car was a '91 Escort wagon. That was a dependable little car, man. My brother and I beat the snot out of it and the thing still lived to see 220k miles. I bought my daughter the identical vehicle (used, w/78k) as a college grad present. She drove that thing to Maine, all over VA Tech for 2 years, to Oregon, back east, then to California where it eventually died a natural death at over 200K. I think it was washed twice. Ron.

My first car was 1991 Geo Prizm Hatchback with sunroof, light blue. 5 speed.
Bought it for 2000usd and did the maintenance and upgrade for 1000usd. Thought of using her for a long time......8.5 mths later was wrecked by a friend of mine in a trip to NY. Sad story. Good thing I'm still alive today... My svx is my first awd and automatic car.
