Everyone complains that it's not like the British version but in my opinion, that is perfectly fine. What is the point of having an exact replica/mirrored show only in different countries anyway... that would be rather pointless. I've DVRd the last two seasons and it's something I enjoy because it's mostly funny and the girlfriend doesn't mind watching it either and finds herself cracking up just as much which is always good. It's not for the hardcore and the entire family can watch it. Some will say that is the problem in itself but whatever.

If you wanted serious then yes, you've come to the wrong place or show. I was always happy to see it sitting there on my DVR when I got home from work or whatever because its stupidity and odd humor is something different to check out... it's something I can just relax with and literally just laugh out loud more often than not. There has been an episode or two that I didn't really care for but generally it's entertaining. Give it another chance.

"Jalopnik recently ran a post showing a photo of the Top Gear USA crew just south of our Southern California Hooniverse HQ. It seems the trio of Tanner, Adam, and Rutledge were snapped in San Diego hanging out with a Subaru SVX, Cadillac Allanté, and Merkur XR4Ti. Why are the three hosts hanging out with such an odd gathering of autos?

We don’t know for sure, but we may have stumbled on to a great chance to buy a unique machine from one of the hosts. Hop down the rabbit hole with us… it’s not very deep."

Re: SVX with TopGear

I like the US TopGear very much and my son likes it much better than the UK version. The reason he likes it more than the UK version is they don’t spend most of their time on exotics or cars that only 1%s can afford. I still like the UK top gear better but my eyes do glaze over when they have Ferrari, Lambo challenges and the like.

Re: SVX with TopGear

Yeah ok, so it might just be a "who can get more than $1000 for a forgotten yet nice car" challenge or something like that. Since the sale itself is going on the show, I assume it's an important event.

Well, let's hope something nice comes out of it. You never know.

As for british TG, I agree with everyone.. uhh. I don't really fancy that much all the stuff on exotics I can't afford anyway... and they're style is not really greatly appreciated outside britain. After all, if a car isn't italian, english or hot!hot!hot! AMG or Alpina, it's not a good car for them. As a matter of fact, for a Subaru zealot, the whole british car journalist scene is just hideous. Obviously british conditions do not favour Subarus and they only like it when it's old school Imprezas and preferably (or exclusively) STI. The situation is quite to the contrary here (conditions are not unlike Japan), Subaru is perfectly mainstream and generally regarded as better than german premium cars when price levels are matched. A B9 is probably on the same price level as a standardly underpowered A6 with decent equipment.

I've ranted about his before: it's car culture.

Re: SVX with TopGear

I'm excited to see what TGUSA does with that segment. It's fun to imagine which host goes with which car. We know Tony Danza is going to show up with the Caddy, but the Merkur and SVX could go either way. They're both dorky.

Anyway, I like TG Proper as well as TGUSA. They're just different. I'm glad that The History Channel gave TGUSA more time instead of just canceling after the (very, very rough) first season. It took awhile, but the hosts have genuine chemistry and the show has found its rhythm.
