Wanna go 5 speed Where r the parts?

I want to make my baby a 5 speed, heard the '96-98 Legacy clutch assembly is the way to go. Does anyone know where are the parts? Having a hard time.

No, on both forums, we say the small car kit is crap and not to buy it.

SEARCH. Manual swaps have been discussed to death, and you will find 95% of what you need to know by just searching. But once you've got an idea of what you'll be getting into, ask away.

I've seen the nightmare that is smallcar. The xmember setup is a complete joke.(not enough support and likely to crack) It's useful for some of the block off plates and the gas pedal plate but that's about it. Not to mention the actual transmissions and parts they sell are jacked through the roof.

I've heard bad news about that as well. I'd rather find used parts somewhere. I hear that the '96-98 Legacy will swap with ease, but which model Legacy?

At one time, there were some guys who were making and selling the custom parts required to properly do the swap. They closed up shop a couple years ago. That is the main challenge at this point.

$575 for a 15 year old clutch is an absolute rip off. It's worth about $25.

Long story short: Any manual transmission in the last 20 years will bolt up to the engine. Any clutch Subaru has made in the last 20 years will work. The other work needed is pretty intensive, a number of parts need to be custom made as we don't currently have a solid source for these.

Stop posting and search a bit, you're making yourself look like an idiot.

He's right. Used clutch components from a legacy are worth $25 MAX. The only thing that may be going on here is that there's a misunderstanding, and you're referring to new OEM parts. Even so, that's pretty high.

Brand new Spec Stage 5 racing clutch for a 98 Legacy for $485. A good used STi 6MT clutch is ~$200. A 14+ year old Legacy clutch, with ancient bearings, is worth almost nothing.
