Sure, six bolts, but only after I remove the exhaust and rear diff. I woldn't want the weight of the diff, prop shaft and subframe to be supported by 20-year-old struts. I think removing just the exhaust is a Pandora's Box.
I am trying to think of a compelling reason not to bypass those hard lines that run over the tank with rubber ones that go under the seat. It would bypass the roll-over valve, sure. That's not great. I'm taking my chances there. It's not a great solution, and hopefully only semi-permanent until I have a very good reason to remove so much stuff in the rear.

Bypassing with rubber hose makes no difference compared to stock.

Oh, I expect that bypassing those hard lines with rubber ones would make no difference, really. The car would work just as well. But I'm not talking about running the rubber lines in the same place as the stock metal ones. Those metal lines are between the tank and the floor. I'm talking about running rubber lines above the floor, under the seat bottom.
I might see if I can get some stainless braided lines to prevent them from becoming abraded and crushed. There are drawbacks to this plan. One, I'll be bypassing the rollover valve. Two, I wouldn't exactly want to fold down the rear seat and put anything heavy in the pass-through area. The fuel lines would be right under the carpet.

If you start at the line at the top by the fuel pump, you can slide it down along the top of the tank, and it'll come out at the bottom. It's a little tricky, but it's possible to get it done.

I'm sure that's possible for one, but I have to do all three. The bottom ends of all three hard lines that run over the tank have crumbled to bits.
I decided not to run the rubber lines inside the car. The lines that come out of the frame rail are fine, and I'd rather not cut those if I don't have to. So I'm trying to get myself enough room to yank the old hard lines out and wiggle the new rubber ones in. I disconnected the prop shaft at the diff and dropped the shield above it. I took out the front tank strap bolts, but the rears are so rusty they're not really bolts any more. I'm hopeful that spiral bolt extractor sockets will be able to get them out, because then I might have the room I need.

If I remember correctly my mechanic had to drop the gas tank to replace my lines. He also replaced the gas gauge thingy while he was in there.

I have the engine all back together and topped off with fluids. The fuel lines are hooked up. I also replaced the battery, since it was four years old and really just sat for that time. Holy cow, when did batteries get that expensive?
The car doesn't start. I have no idea why. But I did find that the return line is leaking just below where it exits the floor of the car. Ugh. I am giving up for awhile. This has been a really frustrating week.

The car finally starts. All the fuel lines are done and it started right up. Of course, this was maybe the sixth evening I've spent working on this damned fuel problem.
Two of the fuel system diagrams are wrong. I'll post a thread about it later for posterity when I have the actual figure numbers, but that's what threw me. Edit: I have posted a thread on the errors in the FSM. You can find it here if you are having trouble hooking the fuel lines up correctly and your search has brought you this far: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...740#post702740 So, I just have to bolt the tank straps back in place, put the prop shaft back and put the RX8's wheels on the SVX. I should be able to drive the car tomorrow. It hasn't left my driveway in at least four years. Of course, as soon as I get it on the road, then I'll find out what else is wrong with it.

Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I used to love the car for the long trips I took in it...at inadvisable speeds. I'm unlikely to do that any more. My commute is one mile.
My tastes also tend towards actual sports cars now, too. My rx8 is a brilliant example. Still, I do love the SVX. It's awfully pretty and positively special. I can't wait to take it to work tomorrow. After, that is, getting the registration renewed. The plates expired in 2009. Speaking of why I bought it in the first place, by the way, do you know when that was? 1999!!! That was, like, a century ago!

The car is all done except for lug nuts that fit the RX8's wheels. Advance sold me the wrong thread pitch. Dammit. So close!
I hope they have some that fit. It starts right up. Since the interior is finally clean and re-assembled, I let Simon 'drive' it. He was very excited to have another car to play with!

I would not recommend the lug nuts from Advanced, mine started rusting within the first few months. For about $10 more you can get the McGard kit off Amazon.com.
