"Clunk" noise

Hi, I've been experiencing for some time a Clunk type noise/ feeling whenever I am appoaching a junction at about 10 to 25mph where no one is coming and so i accelerate off. I'm assuming that the car is in 2nd as I approach and the kick down to 1st is the thing that makes the noise / feeling.
Today, whilst coasting up behind another car and applying the brakes, I get a feeling that something was not freeing itself properly and only when I apply the brakes does the car feel if it is free wheeling. Also a vibration coming from somewhere...
Anyone else with these symptoms?
I've had a look through past Q&A's and have downloaded the Brake Band Adjuster process. Is this a posibility. Mine is a 96.
P.s. I have recently had a MAF Sensor nightmare, and it was only with the past input from this site that has got me back on the road, so many thanks.

Re: "Clunk" noise

Clunk could be trans or engine mounts. The "freewheeling" thing may be torque converter unlocking as you apply the brakes, im assuming it happens after car has been going for a little while yes?

P.S. Dang my mom looks young in that photo, why she spread like that?

Yes, just went out to shop and it only happened on the way back. So what's involved in Torque Converter?

Ps. ...'cos ya momma said she wanted it that way!.....
