Glass Headlamps & Horns

Could anyone with glass headlamps or even RHD please tell me where your horn is mounted? Mine is right in front of the battery and I cant put my headlight in all the way without hitting it. If you have pics that would be great.

Re: Glass Headlamps & Horns

On a UK model, are more or less in the same place. The horn bracket is just turned around so that the horns hang down between the cam cover and the radiator. Then they can fit a longer battery too.

Hi Michael.

I see you are working on your install. Sorry for the delay in answering. I checked all my photos [everywhere!] and there was not one decent one of the horn bracket.

Now I have rectified that, and you can see them in my photo locker in the Technical album.

http://www.subaru-svx.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1196&size=big&cat=

I have 3 UK cars here at present. [Phil says I am cornering the market! ]

In the case of my ebony car Black Betty you can see where I have used the standard UK bracket to accomodate Legacy Turbo trumpets, which are bigger and louder. Being bigger only one would fit in front of the fan on the bracket, so I extended the red wire to feed asecond trumpet fitted behind the grill. They sound nice and loud, a good PARP!!

My nice UK 95 car had a glass headlamp replaced on the LH side by a JDM lamp, the only thing available, similar to a USA lamp. You can see where the last owner John left the tilt motor wired up but lying idle beside the battery.

The 92 Jersey Girl car I have is totally stock. You can see how the bracket is normally positioned. You can also see how the salt on the island has affected the bracket! I have not had time to attend to some cosmetic things like this just yet, I'm still struggling with the gearbox.

Joe

[hope this helps]

Hi Joe, I could not help noticing the earth connection in front of the battery.

That corrosion will cause you some problems in the future.

Harvey.
Ps thanks Chris.

Hi Harvey

Thank you for noticing and bringing that to my attention.

You might have noticed also in my reply to Michael I have three cars here, in differing states of readiness for the road. Paradoxically Black Betty the one longest here has had the most "fettling" and has had all these earths and so on attended to.

The one you noticed above is Jersey Girl. She's only here a few months, and has not yet had my full attention, sanding, polishing, spitting, kicking, you know the drill!

Spending all her life on a small island, she is like a seaside car, more rust than might seem proper. Mostly superficial. I will be doing a major refurb on all these contacts etc before she gets much older.

Joe

PS do you have a code for the rubber front caliper restore kit? These are suffering from rust as well, and need a rebuild.

Re: Glass Headlamps & Horns

Thats a big help Joe, I guess I have it wrong. Yours has a 2 piece bracket judging by the 2 bolts holding them together. My US ones have a one piece bracket with a twist to it where the horns bolt on and face the headlight. I may just live with it the way I have it even though it goes against my OCD. Do you have any wiring diagrams for UK lights handy? I want to try to make a harness to go from US to UK without any cutting.

Re: Glass Headlamps & Horns

The way you have it looks very fine to me Michael.

I can't help you with a wiring diagram, I loaned my wiring manual to Graham in England for a problem with the Version L.
