Unhappy Require Harmonic Balancer for SVX (Down Under)

Hi guys,

My car is becoming a money pit. But I still love it.

I now require a Harmonic Balancer for the front of the engine, my current one is about to fail.

Could anyone help me find this part? I also will require a timing belt and crankshaft seal. Where should I go in the Sydney Hunter Valley region?

Still saving for my new transmission and now this happens!!

Mike

Hey mate,

The Pulley FELL off!!

For about a week or 2, the belts were "screaming", particularly when AC was on and when turning the steering wheel.

That the way they usually go. Did it damage the timing belt cover?

Harvey.

Re: Require Harmonic Balancer for SVX (Down Under)

Hi Harvey

It didn't really damage it, as it happened in my garage. A few small gouges in the tb cover.

That NZ one looks nice. It says it also fits leagcy, wrx etc. This was a question I was going to ask - are they interchangeable?

Yes they are as 2.2 and 2.5's, I know up to at least 99's. If you just want a cheap stock one, I'm sure you can find one off of a Liberty or whatever you call an Impreza over there...

Re: Require Harmonic Balancer for SVX (Down Under)

Thanks everyone. That is awesome help.

By the way, the Impreza is called an Impreza in Australia too. A Legacy is called a Liberty.

I believe all the other model names are the same. EXCEPT of course, for the ALCYONE SVX. I am not sure which market had that ALCYONE prefix? JDM? USA?

Re: Require Harmonic Balancer for SVX (Down Under)

Hi SVXy people.

Just found some "Harmonic Balancers on ebay for WRX - does anyone know if they fit the SVX?? I have been led to believe that the pre 2000 WRX and Impreza ones fit......

Re: Require Harmonic Balancer for SVX (Down Under)

The SVX uses the same hamonic balencer as all the EJ series engines, so you can pick up one off a Legacy or Impreza (or those aluminum ones off EBay...though they will rub the t-belt cover a little....but will "wear in" after a little running ....

Re: Require Harmonic Balancer for SVX (Down Under)

Thanks! Tony had a spare and sent it to me - thank goodness!

Now, if Tony only had a spare transmission, I would be set!!

I am bamboozelled my the transmission problems - there must be a cheaper way than the $3,500 I am being quoted.

Mike

hi brady have you let your fingers do the walking? i'd ring around and get prices i was quoted about 2500 here in brisbane i'm sure you could fit another 4eat from a later liberty they arent that dear you just need a vtd version and you may need to change the tcu to suit failing that i'm sure the centre section of the gearbox is identical to the aussie ones maybe you could build one from a used one ?
