New member to Site--Own 4 SVXs
This is our SVX story.
In 1997, I bought a used Teal 92 SVX at 57K miles as my primary driving car. I fell in love. She got the name, the "Minx" from all my coworkers because she was so lovely. By 2000, I left to work overseas for three years and kept her in storage. When I returned, she needed a great deal of exhaust and tie rod work. I had it all repaired, and continued to use her as a secondary car. Last year, I began through your forum to understand the value and intrigue of these unique kitten like vehicles. I was determined to get another, that looked like her twin. we found a 92 Teal with less than 90K miles in Topeka, Kansas. She became the "Lynx". We took a train to go get her, and drove her home. The very same week, my husband found a White 92 120K within an hour's range of our home for sale. We went to see it and now we had triplets. Welcome the "Sphinx". With their names in place, it was a lot easier than saying, "I'm taking the SVX", to ask, "Which one?", "The teal one", "Which one?" and so forth. But as fate would have it, this year these cars had a misfortune during high winds of a winter storm, as they sat together in a row. A tree in the yard lost a limb that fell directly upon the Lynx's top, bounced in to break the windshield on the passenger side, rip the passenger seat, and expell out through the driver's side upper window. We returned from an errand horrified to see the damage. Neither home insurance would cover, nor car insurance, who said they would only cover a car that hit a tree, not a tree that hit a car. After an extensive search for a new windshield, we were faced with an estimate of $1600 just for the glass repair. The frame around the windshield would require straightening, an addition repair cost. In our search for a windshield, seat and other glass, we thought about having to part out one of the others, but we just couldn't do it. The SVX passion is too deep. We were lead to buy another SVX instead. We found one in VT for $1500, that had a possible transmission problem, but was pristine otherwise at 150K. Enter the Ebony "Jinx". We had her towed to the closest Subaru dealer where she waits for repair. Unhappily, the same week, the Minx, after ten years of devotion, did not pass inspection due to need for coil replacement to pass emissions. After long consideration, we decided the Minx had to be the "Organ Donor" for the other three. Her new exhaust system placed in 2003 would help the White Sphinx, her glass, seat and door would repair the her mirror image Lynx, and her original 130K transmission would save the Jinx. But how difficult it is to see this little friend go! We realize the additional parts we can take off the Minx can be stored and used later when an SVX ends up in sickbay. Now we question if others can use her torso, frame or other parts. We welcome suggestions, advice and queries before she goes to a local yard as bones. Today we learned about the Reading meet. Wouldn't these SVXs love to go, but for this year, they're not ready to travel to SVX Oz. The Lynx needs her body work (courage), the Sphinx needs her pipe work (heart), the Jinx needs her tranny work (brain). And the Minx needs to give away her red shoes so everyone can continue on... We will continue to update. |

Delightful story but I guess when you double or in your case quadruple your fun, you are compounding risk and expenditures and are forced to make sacrifices one otherwise would not have to make.
But, you have found a place where your Minx can live on vicariously through her ilk and brethren. (:

That happens every so often to me as well. I'll hear a word I haven't heard in years, then someone on the radio will use it, then tv an hour later, then a random web site, and so on.
