Tasteful or Tacky?
Here's a pic of a temporary hood fix for my '92 pearl. Due to my own carelessness, I caused a pretty good sized dent right in the middle of the hood. Not having the $400-500 to have it professionally fixed and painted, I did the bodywork myself and painted a center insert with flat black primer as shown. I then got some white commercial-grade reflective material (used for vehicle wrap graphics) and hand-cut and applied the SVX decal. It's not perfect, but looks good from 5 feet or more. I had always intended to have the whole hood repainted without the stripe, but I kinda like it. What do you think?

To each his own. I don't mind it but I wouldn't do that on mine.

Hmm....If you use a non reflective decal, and mabey gloss black paint so it better matches the trunk / roofline, it would be REAL sharp. Doesnt look bad and I kinda like the idea. Might look just as nice with a scoop too

I think you should repaint the hood instead.

I don't like the decal, but that is me. I would rather keep them guessing.

I prefer the look of a clean hood instead (I like pearls especially). But, like the rest said, it's your car, so you do what you want to it.

Not bad.
You can keep the decal but make it slightly different color than the background. If the background is matt black, SVX decal can be gloss black or dark gunmetal, something like that. Slight difference creates very cool feeling. That's my 2 cents.

I should add that I used a flash in the picture because it was near twilight, so the decal appears more reflective than it does in daylight. It's actually pretty close in color to the stock pearl paint. I thought about a scoop, too, but couldn't find a suitable one that I didn't think would look 'tacked on'.

It's OK
If I had a million dollars, my SVX would have the best paint job that money can buy. I don’t have a million dollars so my SVX isn’t pristine.
What you’ve done might not be the modification of choice for Bill Gaits but I think that it’s a very good solution given your financial restraints. One does what one can with what one has. In my opinion, what you’ve done is perfectly acceptable by any yardstick. As you've said, it's a temporary fix. Drive it with pride. |

I think that was a very creative solution to the "oh****imbroke" problem. Excellent!
