i jack from the subframe mounts. i usually dont need to lift the entire rear end, so i can do it side at a time. But yes i am guilty of diff-lifting a time or two

So there is no problem with using tow hooks to jack up the front?

Being my car has no rear diff, Ive jacked the back up by a tow hook. Dunno if it works on the front too.
Prettymuch every time Ive jacked a car other than mine it was done at the rear diff

I use the rear diff. It puts a bit of strain on diff bushings at the back of the diff, but I don't think its enough to damage them.
