3rd Annual Spring Classic - Help Choose the Route!
Spring is right around the corner so it's time to start thinking of another group driving tour! We're starting April off with the Maintenance Meet, and then the Spring Classic will probably take place towards the beginning of May.
We thought it would be fun to involve the group in a bit of the planning process, and to make sure we are keeping this event interesting for the majority of the group. So we're starting off with a poll. Here are the 4 possible routes with brief descriptions. They are all located around the Puget Sound area (where the majority of our active members are), but no matter where it is will be well worth the drive and we always have a couple out-of-staters attend. Vote for your favorite, and we'll keep this poll open for three weeks or so, announcing the date and location at the Maintenance Meet! Whidbey Island This is the same route from the first 2 years, but as we did last year, it would probably be slightly changed and improved again. Starting on the mainland in Burlington, heading up to the Mt. Eerie viewpoint, across Deception Pass Bridge, and then making our way down the island stopping at several waterfront parks. Lunch halfway through in Coupeville, a small touristy town. This tour got rave reviews last year, but change of scenery is always good too. Length: Around 100 miles Total Time w/ Stops: About 6 hours Tour style: Emphasis on scenic, with lots of stops and breaks every 30 minutes or less. Snoqualmie Falls The destination is the highlight of this choice. One of the great natural wonders of the Northwest, the falls are a great sight. There are also some great roads leading too and from there, both in scenery and driving fun. Not much in between, so no scenic stops on the way up or back. Length: Around 80 miles Total Time w/ Stops: About 4 hours Tour style: Rural highway driving on good roads, hourlong stretches there and back with no breaks, extended stay at destination in the middle. Chuckanut Drive Always a great driver's road, Chuckanut Drive hugs waterfront cliffs for several miles up to Bellingham. An equally scenic and challenging stretch of road. One idea for this route is to head north to Lake Whatcom, then come back around south and close with dinner at the end of Chuckanut Drive. Several scenic stops/breaks could be worked into this beautiful route. Length: Around 100 miles Total Time w/ Stops: About 6 hours Tour style: Scenic, but can be challenging, with stops every 45 minutes or so. Cascade Loop This dates back to before Northwest SVX, a small group of us did this loop. Starting in Snohomish or Monroe, head East on Highway 2 up and over Stevens Pass, stopping in Leavenworth, the Bavarian Village for lunch. We then head south on Hwy 97, right along the eastern ridge of the Cascades, to I-90 to head back over the mountains to the west side. For those not quite ready to end the day, dinner can be had in Issaquah at the famous XXX drive in, where there may be a Saturday night gathering of classic cars depending on the date. This is incredibly scenic from the driver's seat, and the most heavy on driving. Length: Around 250 miles Total Time w/ Stops: About 8 hours Tour style: High speed highway driving, with stops every 2 hours or so.

Maybe more would vote if a date was set. Looks like only five of us are interested.

I was actually waiting to decide the date based on the location. Voting was not a commitment to sign up (especially since it's anonymous!). Wanted to choose a date where there isn't some other event going on in the area of the meet that will make parking a group of cars impossible, bigger crowds, etc. This was especially important for the Cascade Loop, as Leavenworth will be hard enough to find parking on a Saturday, much less if there was some festival going on.
Speaking of, it looks like Cascade Loop is the winner by a landside! Should be a nice change of pace from what we've done lately. The date will be sometime in May, we will announce it shortly!

Dan and I were talking about it today and we both thought it would be great to do the loop. Add another 2 to your count - 7 for that now.

The date is about to be announced, just have to be 100% sure so there isn't confusion as in the past when tentative dates have been posted but then taken as written in stone.
I did have a date ready to announce, but it didn't work out so now it will be a few weeks later. Over a month out, so plenty of time for everyone to mark their schedules, get off work, etc.

June 10th!
The date is set for Saturday June 10th!
As voted upon, we will be doing the Cascade Loop, starting in Monroe, WA in the morning, stopping at Leavenworth for lunch around noon, and then looping back south and then west to Issaquah, WA to end at the Saturday night Cruise-In at the XXX drive in. I'm sure there will be a few more good stops in between there too. Here's the official thread and sign up list! http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...321#post398321
