Post Anyone ever catch this review of the Legacy 2.5GT...

...in the 7/4/05 edition of Autoweek magazine? This is by far the fastest 0-60mph & 1/4 mile time I've seen for the 5MT 2.5GT in any magazine. Both Car & Driver and Road & Track got around 14.2-14.3.

I realize some of the test results might be hard to read. Autoweek got:

0-60mph 5.23
1/4 mile 13.95 @ 97.5mph
Skid pad 0.81g

they are sleepers.

guy on LGT.com got a stock time of 5.82 0-60 on a G-Tech. with the Cobb AP stage 1 he ripped off one time of 4.85 another at 5.25.

this was a 5EAT, too, no other mods.

That's pretty sweet. I've read that you can improve the straight-line acceleration and braking performance in the 2.5GT by stiffening up the suspension and running better tires.

I've been doing some research on several different Subaru models of late. May start test driving this Fall. Things are happening at work...

yeah, thr RE-92's just mess everything up. i don't understand why Subaru insists on using these crappy tires that destroy their performance test numbers in the car magazines. if they had better stats in their reviews, they'd probably sell more alot more cars. they could even use cheaper tires than the RE-92's (from Bridgestone's lineup) and do better, so cost isn't even an issue.

i have a copy of Road&Track's Speed magazine where they add springs, sway bars, new tires, and STi brakes to an LGT, and it beat the STi on the skidpad and slalom, and just got 1 foot longer braking from 60. this was on a Limited model with power leather and sunroof, too. no power mods, but acceleration increased .2 sec to 60 from just having better tires.

when i get the chance, i'm putting some new pads and SS lines on. i don't think the Brembo's will offer much improvement over stopping power vs. the cost, and will mainly just help with fade. the stock brakes on the LGT are pretty capable - the rear LGT rotors are bigger than the front rotors on the WRX! (although i don't know what size rotors the '06 WRX will be running - they may be beefed up due to the 2.5L engine.)

According to the '06 WRX specs listed on Subdriven, the front rotors are 11.5" w/ 4 piston calipers - while the rear rotors are 11.3" w/ 2 piston calipers.

Whatever you do don't buy anything made in the US. They must provide free crack to the line workers in Indiana.

We'll see what I decide after test driving the line. Which models are made in the US?

LGT fronts are 12.3" and rears are 11.3", both vented.

nice that they gave the WRX bigger brakes to go along with the '06 power increase.

Legacies- all variations
B-9s.

Build quality is equal to some of Detroits 1980's best.

I must note that I have no clue if they make them in the LGT's size (or even what that size is), but if you want insane tires that don't ride like crap or make more noise than the exhaust, I highly recommend Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. That's if you are more concerned about grip than snow traction. I haven't used them in the snow, but they are great in the rain, and their dry traction is enough that I am no longer able to spin well into 2nd gear, when I used to be able to spin into 3rd. I would think that if they can tame 2 wheels with 450hp attached, four of them working together should really be something.

well, i'm gonna wear these crapsters out first, but i'll check into those when the time comes. i may consider some larger, wider wheels, too, so stock size might not be an issue. not concerned about snow traction - i have another set of wheels w/ snow tires on them for winter.

There was a review from Littleton, CO in there. Ken Ghost Writing again? That is a nice 0-60 for a sedan in this price range. I mean we're not talking C55 AMG here, but for this money I don't think there is much quicker. The G35 sedan costs more and is about the same. As long as it never loses to a ford, I would call it a success for Subaru. Now Alan, go smoke some 18 year old in daddy's new rustang GT.

I've been looking at tires lately. More of a curiosity in case the future 928 needs new tires! I like the Pirelli P Zero but are expensive. At least for me. The Michelins are criminally expensive. A set of PS2's are close to a grand. The Sumitomo HTR Z 2 is a real agressive looking tire and really affordable. I liked the HTR + I had on my SVX. I was never a fan of Goodyear.

i had Bridgestone RE-730's (if i remember right...) on the 928 and liked them. the rears only lasted about 4000 miles, but i'm not going to blame the tire in this case.

My dad won't use anything but Goodyear (racing history at work). The GS-D3's are the runaway favorite among the Corvette/f-body enthusiasts. They are definetly pricey, but nothing else that fits those cars comes close to the grip they dish out. The F1 Supercar can match the D3 in dry traction, but it's more expensive and it works more like a float than a tire in the rain. The BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KD/KDW is the next best tire, and a bit cheaper too.

BTW, for the price Michelin charges, their tires suck.
