Bubbles in tranny fluid

Both my 92 SVX and 92 Legacy 4wd have bubbles in the trannny fluid on the dipstick. What would cause that?
I have not seen that in other cars I have owned.
The fluid looks clean and smells ok.
Thanks

Is this when the fluid is up to temperature? Is the level correct? I'll check my cars and lets you know what I see. Off hand, there are a few return to the sump flow paths from the control valve that may make streams into the pool of the sump and entrain some air. How long have you had the car? How many miles and when was the fluid changed last?
