Bike Rack Suggestions?

With spring coming, I've been starting to think about getting my bike (mountain, that is) out and realized that dumping my old 4-door sedan (and driving my new SVX) means I've got no way to haul it around.

Anybody have a suggestion for a good fitting, single-bike rack?

I use the bike carrier in the back of my car. It works pretty well. Just went to a local sports store and pick it up. It go on the back with some strings. I can carry up to 3 bikes if I recall.

I think Lwin means ON the back of his car!
Welcome to the SVX club my man, not many mountain bikers here.
I had great success using a SARIS BONES rack. Our car won't appear on their list of suggested racks, but a good bike shop will allow you to return it if it doesn't fit. One bike only, even my Santa Cruz Bullitt, and you'll be fine up to at least 90mph. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I use to slide it in the back seat,
(my bike that is) but the mud was too much to behold....

PW,

SARIS BONES, eh? Thanks for the tip. I wanted to see if anybody had luck with a specific rack (since some racks fit certain cars better than others), and this'll give me some place to start.

I used to throw my muddy wreck of a bike in the back of my old '84 BMW, but I told myself I wasn't going to punish my SVX the same way.

Gotta keep that Ecsaine pure, y'know...

If you are looking for a roof rack, the nicest one I found is the Rola Roof rack. It has all sorts of attachments. I use it for bikes and skiing. Not cheap and it has to be ordered from Australia.

Barrecrafters has a universal fit rack for our cars.

IMHO, the Rola has a nice sleek design that goes very well with the SVX look. Do a search and you will find pics, including some of my car , of both racks as well as some others. If you do choose the Rola, one of the threads has a listing of a shop in Australia that will ship to the US for not a lot of money.

Cheers,
Matt
