Military service?

Who has been or still is in the military. Any branch, any country, other than Iraq, they do not exist anymore. And what did or do you do?

Me

I will have 17 years in the Air Force as of 3 April. My current duty assignment has me stationed in Ankara, Turkey for a 15 month tour. However this week I am in Wiesbaden, Germany for a TDY to take care of some business. Before Turkey I was at Minot N.D., Spangdahlem Germany, and Offutt Ne. I am sure many people will think I ma nuts when I say that I am really looking forward to getting back to North Dakota...but that is beacuse I want to get back to the Wife and Kids.

Chris.

I was in the USNR from 1970 to 1975. I was an AW-A E4 flying crew with P-2's and later w/ P-3's out of Glenview NAS (IL) (when it still was a NAS).

My son just landed today (!!!!!) in Ft. McCoy after a 1 year tour of duty with the 652nd Engr. Batallion (Army Reserves) in Iraq. He'll be home in about a week.

We are grateful he is back home safe and sound, but his wife and 1 yr. old daughter are probably more grateful.

i was in Air Force basic training until i tore my knee up and got sent home two days before i would have completed it.

i have a LOT of respect for the people in the military, but i'm glad i got out - i'm too much of a non-conformist jackass.

SVX ex-military

I grew up an ARMY -brat, moving from Ft. to Ft..
I was Squadron Leader in my High School AF Jr ROTC Unit.
I served active time in the Army during the Nam. Did not see Nam as I was with the 82nd Airborne and then Airborne Artic Infantry in Alaska.

I was so impressed with the Subaru I bought there that I have now owned several of them. When I found out about the SVX model, I had to have one.
I'm sure glad I did. It's the finest car I've ever owned (and I've owned quite a few).
I'M currently trading out the auto tranny for a 5-speed manual gearbox. This is one of the few times I've been enjoying working on my broken vehicle. 9don't tell the wife I ruined the auto tranny on purpose)
I feel it was ahead of it's time and was the best car ever mass marketed in the 20th Century.
but then I've been biased towards Subarus and Chevy's for a long time.
My wife calls it an endearing character flaw.

Cool

I was a reluctant US Army draftee in '63 during the cold war & hippie era. JFK was assassinated during my 8 week boot camp reality show in Ft. Dix, NJ; & I figured we'd be exchanging nukes with the Rooskis since they, no doubt, were responsible. Fortunately, only Marina Oswald was Russian, not Lee Harvey, so the cold war continued. Nonetheless, I was shipped off to do battle with the Russians at the Monterey, CA Defense Language Institute for a year. Then, filled with a fluent command of the Russian language, especially the picturesque profanity, I was shipped off to a listening post in West Germany to sit in a hut & eavesdrop upon the poor unsuspecting Russian tank corps. I learned that their officers generally got drunker & more often than ours. I got out in '67, after having helped win the cold war for Mr. Reagan 20 odd years later.
My MOS was highly classified & I shouldn't be telling you all this. But as I have done so, I must now go outside & shoot myself.

Ron (Bond - James Bond ..................bang!).

I played fife at the Battle of Bunker Hill. I also was assigned to clean the barn stall of the horse that Paul Revere rode.

Larry, I thought you tended Napolean's horse? I have been in the USAF Reserve for 10 years now at McGuire AFB in NJ as a Combat Arms Specialist attached to a Security Forces Squadron. I did 18 months of Active Duty from 11/01-04/03 for Noble Eagle.
