Yeah, thats my only option right now....I can't believe that replacing my battery is going to cost me an additional, what?, $250?

Yeah, I really can't understand why this would cause your system to go inop. I've changed batteries in one SVX 4 times and haven't had a problem. I've only changed the battery once in the other with no difficulties. In fact, on the one, I went through cycles of battery going dead, jumping, running for weeks, battery dying again, jump it, let it charge . . . That should have been enough to screw up anything! Still, no problems. I can't imagine what could have caused it, if it were operating prior to your battery change.

I do recall, when I replaced the module in my first SVX, it didn't work right off the bat. I pulled the unit, took it apart, sprayed the inside down with contact cleaner and reinstalled it. It fired right up and I haven't had a problem since.

My guess is something causes the module to be "constipated" when it receives some kind of "trauma." My theory is, that if you disconnect the power (easier for you since your module is underneath the rear deck, accessible by dropping the liner from the trunk, or dropped rear seat) for a while, then reconnect, it will re-set. Again, it's just a theory and I'd like someone to be the guinea pig.

I replaced my battery this weekend with an Optima Red Top. Security system didn't miss a lick. Didn't even have to reprogram the remote.
I may just be that guinea pig pretty soon... It's been almost two years since I got my car and the security system has never worked. The battery has been disconnected several times over that period, but I've never disconnected the security system module itself (or tried to clean it with contact cleaner). It's about time I give that a try.

Did you (or anyone) have any luck removing the security module, then cleaning and puting back in?

My 92 SVX was in storage for 3 months (over the winter), the battery went dead........now my remote doesn't work and my security light is solid.

another red security alarm light

I had to install a new(iused) seatbelt ec module and after that my security alarm stopped working (and with it, the remote)

My security light is solid and keyless entry doesn't work

I wonder if swaping my broken ecu in will give back my keyless entry?
And if so, why the heck would the seatbelt ecu be affect the keyless entry?

Welp, just to bring some closure to this...

I broke down and finally bought a new security module. (after looking for a used one for awhile vainly) and after a little bit of trouble with the programming mode, it works fine.

I am still amazed that the simple act of changing my battery killed the security module.

htyei - sounds like you need to replace yours too.

This is a great and frustrating thread. My door was left ajar, which drained my battery. Now my security module is fried (setady red light, remotes not working, can't go in to programming mode, etc.)

What a bummer. $138 for just a new module. Has anyone replaced theirs in the trunk? How difficult is it? I'd like to avoid the $120 they will charge to install a new one.

At that price, you might consider just replacing it with an aftermarket system. Aside from the nice SVX key fob, the oem alarm is really nothing special.

Are you sure about this Aredub? I don't think the OEM alarm has any idea of the battery condition in the remote. As far as I can recall, the intermittent flashing lights indicate that a remote code either has not been programmed to the system or has been erased due to power loss.

So, they figured it better to do without it.

well not really new battery, but none the less a problem with my alarm:

the security light does not light up when pressed.
i can however enter programming mode and the car responds to the remote.
when using the remote, the svx locks/unlocks the doors.
i count 4 (maybe 3) beeps when the svx locks/unlocks the door.
i don't get the 1 honk for arm and 2 honks for disarm anymore.
the alarm doesn't go off anymore if the door is opened with a key while 'locked'.

any ideas? i just bought a new remote that's still unwrapped.

Could be the pushbutton on the dash isn't working? Four beeps is the normal lock/unlock alert when using the remote, so I'd guess the remote is probably working properly. If your security button is anything like my cruise button, it sometimes takes repeated attempts to get it to engage. Seems the less it's used, the more reluctant it becomes.

i've pushed that little sucker in about 100 times already. if i turn it off the 'security' button(which no longer lights up), 'lock/unlock' remote doesn't respond. so i guess it works. <shrug> dunno though.

Oh well, best guess.

Disconnecting the battery arms my alarm; is that how it's supposed to work? Nearly came out of my socks when I was putting in a new battery at the gas station where the old one died and the alarm went off the instant I touched the terminal.
