Knock sensors
I recently ran a test on my SVX and it said I needed to replace the left knock sensor. Does anyone know how this is done? Or is it something I'm going to have to take to a professional? Thanks
Jim

Jim:
Check my post here: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...004#post149004 The left one is the easy one, but it is recommended that you do them in pairs. I got the knock sensors from subaruparts.com. I think they were abaout $40 each.

Jim:
Correction. The left one (drivers side and to the rear of the engine) is the difficult one. Good luck.

I looked on subaruparts.com and I couldn't find the knock sensors listed anywhere. Am I not looking in the right place or are they just not available from them anymore? Is there any other place to look for them? Thank you for your effort.
Jim

What is necessary to read and clear codes on a 96. Any help would be appreciated.
Please don't tell me to play with the black connector and the blue wires. My back can't handle it anymore. Thanks, John 96 SVX 97 Outback Sport Oh yeh and my other car. |

all you need to do is take the smaller of the black connectors, take both blue wires plug both into the top left 2 pin holes, start the car and ythen shut it off, codes are clear, disconnect the wires and connector and you are done, then go to the chiropractor. haha

I'll try it BUT, I gotta tell you there is no wire it the upper left hand pin of that connector in my car. Must be magic.
Thanks Tom, I'll try it first then go see the chiropractor. To be continued. John 96 SVX 97 Outback Sport Oh yeh and my other car |

I doubt you will find it since the 96/97 uses OBD-II. I don't believe they have the same luxury of having to contort into uncomfortable positions trying to find the black connector and guessing which 2 holes to put the blue wires into.

David,
I believe you are right. I already had a local garage check and clear the code with their (Snap On I think) tester but it didn't work. I also left the battery disconnected overnight. The light came back on in the morning. Soooo I guess it of to the local dealer to see what they can do. Interesting thing is the performance and gas mileage has not changed and it past PA imissions test in August with flying colors. How many years does it take for a check engine lamp to burn out? Thanks, John 96 SVX 97 Outback Sport Oh yeh and my other car |

The one I got is by Innova and works fine. Just plug it into the Diagmostic Terminal on the dash.
