Unhappy Legacy transmission codes

We drove to Amber's parent' house (in Ohio) today. Of course, we took the Legacy. After our second stop, when I started the car I noticed the 'AT TEMP' light flash a bunch of times.

I kid you not, I was just thinking earlier today, 'hey, this car has no 'Power' light - how's it tell me something's wrong.'

Anybody know how to read the stored tranny codes in a '95 Legacy?

The car, by the way, is behaving as well as it always has. If it's anything, I bet it's the AWD solenoid (duty C?) - the front wheels slipped a bit on the ice yesterday before the rears helped out. Poop.

I called the local dealer yesterday and a tech told me that there is no 'self-check' of any kind on OBD-II Subarus, and that the only way to read the code was an OBD-II reader. I said, 'well, poop - I left mine at home.' The tech told me to bring the car down and he'd tell me what was wrong with it.

As I suspected, it's the solenoid for the transfer clutch. I'm pretty sure that's duty C. The guy recommended that, while I was having that replaced, I also have the transfer clutch replaced as well. He gave me a rough estimate of $350. That's good advice and a good price, but in the meantime I'm just going to have a fuse plugged into the FWD slot.

The dealer had all the parts in stock, and I'm very tempted to just go get the solenoid and replace it with my father-in-law's help. The clutch is fine now, but of course it could start to slip at any moment - since the car has 150k on it.
