Recommend a Car Cover for me

I'd like to invest in a car cover. I'm not looking to spend a fortune but would like to get one that is half decent. What is a good one to use? And if anyone has one for sale I'd be interested in that too.

Costco usually has them... Costco also is a "Class Act"

Re: Recommend a Car Cover for me

For our Corvette that sits outside all the time, we had to spend $250+ to get a cover that fit correctly and didn't blow off at the mere hint of wind or rain.

I have a Costco cover and it fits perfectly. With that said, I do not use it outside, I use it more as a dust cover in the garage, so I cannot speak to how it performs out in the weather.

This would be for outside use.

Re: Recommend a Car Cover for me

Sean,
There really isn't a good outside cover for short term usage. I would only recommend a cover to someone I liked for outside winter storage at best. Problem is even with the best fitting cover the car needs to be completely cleaned each time before covering it or else it absorbs the dust and dirt and creates its own version of sand paper. I've found it easier just to wash my cars at least once a week and keep a couple layers of quality wax on it (personally choice is Dodo juice as nothing shines like it) but autogym is a good cheap alternative but it does lack the shine of the exotics.

Did ya get that bumper fixed? Just had my XJRs bumpers painted by the guy who did my TVR as there was a slight towing issue when the camper rolled a bit forward and scratched it pretty good. I can barely tell it isn't factory painted and they have yet to be polished. If it hasn't gone in yet and you do decide to go with a cover I would definately recommend getting a quality buff, clay clean and a base layer of hard wax put on. Then when you get it home put some soft wax on to give it a good shine. Key is to keep it clean and get a well fitting cover. The OEM cover was just okay but fit well and was cheap. Don't know of any custom fit covers out there, just semi custom fit covers which means it'll fit cars meeting the same criteria.

My thoughts exactly. I tried a higher end one for a season of outdoor use and it really wasn't worth the effort in my part of the world.

Re: Recommend a Car Cover for me

I was in the same boat, looking for a cover a few months ago. The OEM covers have long been sold out, but I lucked out and found one on ebay.

It is a used, custom-fitted-for-the-SVX Technalon brand cover. It is thick and repels water pretty well, unless it is a torrential downpour. I always wash the car before I put the cover on and always remove it using the method Technalon recommends to keep dirt off my paint.

I would contact them about making another, but expect to pay at least $250 for it.

Re: Recommend a Car Cover for me

I bought 2 from ebay, one is very lightwieght and breathable and has to be tied down or will blow off, the other is more heavywieght and has better elastic on the corners. Had them over a year and are showing it, but they keep the sun off, not the dirt but I wash that off regularly they were not expensive................G

Re: Recommend a Car Cover for me

I can live with washing and waxing it before putting the cover on. I was just thinking it would help with the paint in the sun and with all the rain we have been having. Speaking of rain, for those of you that have covers what do you do after a heavy rain, does the cover need to come off, or will it just dry out?

Ben, the bumper is being worked on right now, should be done sometime this week, they are going to buff out the roof too.

Re: Recommend a Car Cover for me

My cover doesn't need to come off after rain. Look into the company, their fabric is made by Kimberly Clark and is very weather and mildew resistant.

Of course it doesn't! It only rains once a year in "western Washington...

Serriously, how long have you had it and is the car "ok" when it doesn't have a chance to dry out for weeks at a time... like lately?

I have been looking at one like yours on the web and I really need to do something. All three of my SVX's won't fit in my 3 car garage with the riding mower in there as well.

Thanks,
Keith

Re: Recommend a Car Cover for me

+1 Seems a cover for the mower would be easy to come by!

Re: Recommend a Car Cover for me

Can anyone say BBQ cover?

During the winter I was leaving the cover on during the week and driving the car on the weekends. Didn't smell funny, the car didn't fill with water... I'd call that a success.
