Computer programmers/hackers here? Need help..

I have searched exhaustively for a solution to a very small problem, and I decided to take a long shot and ask someone here:

I have unlocked my GPS unit to get to the Windows CE desktop, no problems.

The only thing I have left to do, which has become a headache, is to unlock the Windows taskbar, which it seems the GPS software has locked.

The procedure was outlined here, but was for Intellinav.exe, my Nextar came with Odyssey.exe as the navigation app.

As described, its a simple API call within the Intellinav executable, easily disabled with a Hex editor. However, since mine is Odyssey, how could I find which Hex string to modify to allow my taskbar to be accessed? How did he find out how to do his?

Like I said, its a long shot asking here, but the GPS Passion and Underground forums are ghost towns and searching has revealed a lot of dead ends. Thanks.

I'll see what we can come up with. I assume you can access the CE registry if need be?

Re: Computer programmers/hackers here? Need help..

This should do it.
Lemme know how it turns out.

Note the current values for these keys if for some reason this does not clear the issue.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced\TaskBarSizeMove

The key is 1 for YES {able to move}, and 0 for NO {unable}

HKEY_USERS\.....{Assuming this is the only user, it can be assigned any combination of numbers. It is the longest string, without the word CLASSES behind it}
\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explore r\Advanced\TaskBarSizeMove

Same as above for command answer.

There is a third key in the mix, but it does not change for either position.
It is at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Advanced

Changes are not hot, if you can't do it from the taskbar itself.
So you must powerdown, and restart to envoke

Re: Computer programmers/hackers here? Need help..

Under the registry string HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntversion\Explorer there is no "Advanced" folder. There is Cmbbands, Shell folders, and Statusbar. The Statusbar folder contains one entry, "Showstatusbar", which has a value of 1.

There is no HKEY_USERS, only CLASSES_ROOT, CURRENT_USER, AND LOCAL_MACHINE.

I looked in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entversion, and there is no "explorer", only "internet settings" and "URL".

Is it possible I have a windows ce that did not have a taskbar installed? I have the desktop, and control panel, and the file menu in folders, I just cant get the taskbar/start menu on the friggin thing, even with showtaskbar.exe.

Thanks for the reply and trying to help, hopefully I can find out why my registry has zero references to the taskbar or settings for it.

Re: Computer programmers/hackers here? Need help..

Update: I found that im missing some key files in my windows directory to even HAVE a taskbar. I have located the needed files in the MioPocket zip package.

Now theres just one problem, Activesync wont let me rename, move, or copy most of the files in my GPS's windows directory. Is there a way around this.... to make Activesync allow file movements to and from my device and allow file manipulation?
