Brake Rotors, Good, Bad, Fugly

Since MANY of us have installed aftermarket rotors in the past few seasons, I was curious to know how well they have held up. Same goes for pads.

Who has the best pads, rotors and service for the $$? Now that the Stebro is in, this is going to be my next upgrade!

Not sure where the previous owner got them but I have drilled/slotted rotors up front with EBC Green Stuff pads. In the rear I have the stock setup, soon to get swapped out, I need to buy a bedroom set first.

My year old Bradi drilled and slotted rotors w/stock pads stop well but squeak during slow in town stops. Rears are stock, don't make noise, but need new pads.

I got a set of drilled and slotted STS brakes from Schucks/Checker/Kragen. They have worked really well for me. Only complaint is that they could have used another row of holes between the slots. Good stopping power. I used to have EBC Green Stuff pads in before I swapped pads. The rears are still in stock form. The fronts have a very small, almost unnoticable warp in them. Seasoned drivers and drivers that are picky about how their brakes feel(*me) will notice it. Hard to make a few hard stops to avoid the idiots that think they rule the road.

I've got drilled/slotted all around with carbon-metallic in front and axxis metal masters in the rear. My turbo Grand Am has slotted/drilled in front with ceramic pads. I drive pretty hard and use the brakes hard. All the drilled/slotted rotors on both my cars are cracking around the holes.

This is a common problem and the reason drilled rotors generally aren't recommended. Of course if you spend a fortune on some really high quality rotors you may not have the cracking problem but for the $200-300 most of us are spending on drilled/slotted we're not going to get top quality material.

When I replace the rotors (on both cars) I'm going with slotted-only. I emailed Irotors and they will do slotted-only if you ask.

I haven't tried green stuff pads or kevlar. I've tried ceramic, carbon-metallic, and axxis. The axxis wear out the fastest and I get the best stopping from carbon-metallic. I'm going to give the green stuff pads a try next.

I already have a set of braided stainless steel brake hoses coming from Irotors....will be here on the 13th. I'll let you know how they work out.

Slotted raceconcepts with the semi mettalices also provided....Full autocross season and my "spirited" driving style...no warp and more than half pad left...only a tad squishy in the cold.... Stopin on a dime as soon as they are even slightly warm

I'll been running KVR cross drilled rotors and KVR carbon fiber pads all the way around for over two years. I like them, and there cad plated so they are not all rusty looking. I added SS lines last year and the braking is even better now.

Just ordered a set of these http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...e=STRK:MEWA:IT and these pads for the fronts: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...e=STRK:MEWN:IT and these pads for the rear http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...e=STRK:MEWN:IT because they didn't make the kevlar for the rear, I'll post results when they arrive and are installed. But you got to admit they'll have a great look through my 18" Ace manta rims.

Priorities?

You can sleep in your car, you can't drive your bed . . .

He Lives With His Girl Friend...

so you know he's gettin' the bedroom set first. He might sleep in the car but it'd be awfully cold, uncomfortable and lonely.

I've got ART cryogenic slotted rotors with performance pads. Very pleased. Quite and less dust than standard pads, but still dusty. See my locker for individual pics if you have dial up.
