Agreed. I paid $6,900 for my '96 SVX L with 95K miles. Book value has it at about $6,400 but there wasn't another 96/97 within 300 miles of me. My car was definitely worth $500 over Blue Book to me...

Well, of course my opinion was a generalization, and I posted it knowing that there are lots of folks hereabouts who would cheerfully pay a premium for a 5-speed SVX. But I still believe that in the long run, and to the majority of prospective buyers, a well-maintained, predominately stock SVX (or any other out-of-the-ordinary make, for that matter) will be tops in value.

Understood dcarrb, and 99.9% of the time what you're saying is correct. However, with certain cars where a manufacturer overlooked something desirable to some buyers, an aftermarket add-on can actually increase the value significantly.
Case in point is the 3000GT Spyder. Prior to '95, the only way to have a convertible 3000GT was through the aftermarket - a company called ASC in Southern CA. The workmanship was so good, that Mitsubishi approached the company to build 1,000 convertible 3000GT's in the '95/'96 model years. Even when Mitsubishi did this, it was still an aftermarket add-on as the cars were shipped 'whole' from Japan to ASC's factory, where the roof was chopped off and the body stiffened. Now, Subaru never turned to the aftermarket to build a 5spd SVX, but I certainly feel it's an add-on that will increase the value of the car to some buyers - and the result of the SmallCar auction backs me up in saying this. -Chike

Based on my recent purchase of a '96 SVX LSi, I'd say that '95 is overpriced/overpaid for by $500-1000.
With the last Buick Reatta I owned, I considered having a 5 speed put in that when I had to replace the engine & the trans wasn't far behind. Like the SVX, it's a lower production car that comes stock with a fancy computer system, 6 cyl engine & an automatic trans. Bottom line, it wasn't worth the added cost, bigger depreciation (in case it got hit or stolen) or the potential headache if something went wrong (no warranties). I'd expect the same with one of these. ~Brenda |

yeah but this low production car is worth any work!

I wonder if anyone has considered that this particular SVX might well have sold for just as much (if not more) with a recent, warranted Subaru remanufactured automatic.
Hey, y'all go ahead and mod 'em; just makes the stock examples that much more rare. dcb |

still, are there any prospective buyers out there that would consider a 5speed? if so what would your rpices be? i am considering buying an svx w/ a blown trans and doing the swap and trying to spin a profit. Well my ultimate payout would be 3-4k and i was hoping for a return of around 7-8k. That would make a gross profit of 5-3k. well i am wondering if i took a bone stock 92 and dropped a 5 speed what would you pay for it? it has 119k on motor and half shafts and wheel bearings would be replaced. In other words, the car would be in perfect running condition with minor cosmetic damage(door dings and rocks chips). Also if wanted an aftermarket performance package(ecu tune stage 1 chip or 2 nitrous kit) well just wondering fill in the blanks for me
I would pay$________ for a 92 awd auto I would pay$________ for a 92 awd 5 speed I would pay$________ for a 92 awd auto w/ mods (stage 1 or 2) I would pay$________ for a 92 awd 5 speed w/ mods ( stage 1 or 2) |

Here's my $0.02:
I would pay$_1,500 _ for a 92 awd auto I would pay$_3,000 _ for a 92 awd 5 speed I would pay$_1,500 _ for a 92 awd auto w/ mods (stage 1 or 2) I would pay$_3,000 _ for a 92 awd 5 speed w/ mods ( stage 1 or 2) The Stage 1 or 2 mods wouldn't add any value for me as it'll mean the car was running more hp than stock and certain parts of the car were stressed more than normal (tranny, etc.) The 5spd adds value to me personally but not more than $1,500-$2,000. If you did buy a '92 w/ a blown tranny and fixed 'er up, you'd be best off selling it on Ebay. Smallcar sold a '95 SVX w/ 82K miles for $7,750 on Ebay last week. You'll be lucky to get $5,000 for a '92 w/ 100K+ miles... -Chike

a 92 w/ a working auto is worth a pill more than 1500. that might be ur own personal opinion but that car is worth much more

Most dealerships will try to sell 92's for 3-4K, but if you have cash you can pick one up from a private party for $1,500-2,000 easy. I got my '96 SVX L AWD for just $6,900...
