I remember that you have to bend the plate into a bow shape to get it to fit flush with the bolt holes. Then, if I recall correctly, that you have to line up the holes in the 'wings' with the factory frame holes and then relocated driveline bearing gets bolted to the other holes(forward) in the plate. Hope that helps at all.

I finally got a 2 piece drive shaft, which came out of a 97 Legacy Outback Auto, and had the front section lengthened, so my carrier bearing is now in the correct place!
Had to drill the spot welds on the carrier bearing bracket out, and put the SVX bracket on the Outback Carrier Bearing, as the mounting holes were different. Now the better news, the 97 Legacy Outback drive shaft is the SAME length as the stock SVX one….so….the drive shaft out of a MANUAL 97 Legacy Outback, should be the correct length for the conversion, you would just need to drill the spot welds off the carrier bearing mounting brackets, and weld the one off the SVX onto the Outback one. I hope somebody does this, just to prove it to work, but since they run the same tranny, I’m sure this is correct. It’ll definitely be easier to find a used Legacy drive shaft than it is to find one for an SVX Hope this helps someone...

The one I got has the bolt in rear section, not the CV type joint.
So I just unbolted it, and had the front section lenghened (used the tube from the rear section of another Subaru drive shaft)

Chris,
Just to be clear, was the driveshaft you had from a '97 Legacy Outback with a 5MT?

Nope, the one I used came out of a 97 Legacy Outback Automatic, and I had to lengthen the front section, and swap brackets on the carrier bearing, my thoughts are that if it had been out of a Manual 97 Legacy Outback, it would have been the correct length to start with, so the carrier bearing bracket would be the only modification to it. But would like someone to confirm this by tring one out.

I'm going to give it a try. I'll probably just buy a new driveshaft. Does the '97 Legacy Outback driveshaft use a u-joint in the center or a CV joint?

The one I got had a u-joint, and the rear section unbolted behind the carrier bearing.
