scratch damaged on glass
can some one explain why the side glass's these cars get scratched in an very unusual, controlled way?, i had the same prob on my previous car , but i thought it was just a 'one-off', but the latest one has also devloped these controlled markings, very weird?
thanks to all who replied to my previous request for tuning options, looks like i have to keep saving for my next choice, Honda NSX or Jaguar XJR (aluminuim version) long time!! |

There are some felt pads inside the door pannel and when they get sand on them they will scratch the glass as the window goes up and down. If you clean them, it will help keep that from happening. Good luck.

Earl is 100% right here Ahmed.
You need to take off the door panel to see it. it's easy enough to do, but don't force it more than you have to or you will break the embedded plastic pop-on clips. There will be a runner or guide on the inside in line with that scratched line in the glass. The part that pushes the glass into place has a felt or velour pad up against the glass. This pad gets grit embedded in it. When it does, this grit abrades the glass each time it goes up and down, hence the scoring. As it is on the inside of the window, my guess is that dust and sand gets down there when driving with the window open in the summer months. The outside of the window pane is "cleaned" by the rubber strip it is pushed up to, so I suspect little or no sand gets to that side. Most of the scoring damage will be to the inside of the glass. A car that has been driven a lot with all four windows open will have scoring on all four opening panes. A car where the driver prefers aircon and windows closed will have very little damage to the other 3 windows. The driver's window is nearly always marked, it is just a question of how bad the scoring will be. Joe

glass polish
One little company I have come across is Frost.co.uk they have some excellent renovation products, of which I have tried a few....and they do work.
Amongst them is their glass polishing kit, it does work, although only on light sratches, but it did improve the overall look on my svx. This combined with Joe's advise will give your car a fresh look at a very cheap price....nowt like elbow grease!! John |

still here!
Hi Joe,
Still up here with the canny Scots and no intention to leave till I've drank them dry of their finest malt, so be a few more months yet As far as keeping well?!...I think nine months of D.I.Y are starting to take there toll...but if it keeps her in doors happy then I'll get time to play. The 'bus' contrary to being a 4x4 is now in its winter state...wrapped up till spring in the garage..but had a great year runing it apart from a leak from the PS system which I will leave for the garage to sort next year as it's due for the 90k service....ouch, ouch and tripple ouch. No intention to giving up the SVX habbit, but i promised myself a new bike (with engine) when I'd given my dearest her new kitchen...but the SVX has only been of the road a month and boredom as set in already, so the VFR might have to do another year.. Anyway enough about me, how's yerself, is the force still with you? all the best John |
