SVX takes 1st in STX class NYR SCCA
Yup folks, my stock (except for the race concepts rotors and SS lines) took 1st place in STX class beating a WRX
I took her out and she did well. Lots of plowing unfortunately but enough straights on the course to allow it to gain speed. This was my first auto-x with the SVX so it was a "shakedown" event. Items that shook out? Overflow tank on the radiator didn't like to be tossed around PS fluid resivoir cap must have been loose cause she spilled a hair too. Exhaust blew a hole in either the cat, or the y-pipe or something but now it's like I'm running open headers on the drivers side. That about summs it up! -mike |

I think I finished probably in the top 10% of the competitors in the event And next year the SS lines should be legal in stock class

great
Usually auto boxes don't do well in autox. How was the course set up, and once moving how did you shift (if necessary from 2nd)?
did they make you run prepared because of the lines? Congrats are due - anybody get any photos? |

For more SVX auto-x info, contact Harry (newsvx) & visit www.gws-mbca.org for some results from Harry's runs. Very impressive & I had the privilege of riding shotgun on a trial run. Ya' puts it in 1st & leave it there! It'll shift all by itself to 2nd at redline. I'm glad this was Harry's '97 & not my '92. Ron.

paisan & newsvx
Paisan, what did you do for tires/wheels?
newsvx (if you see this), I looked in your folder and both the SVX's had aftermarket wheels but couldn't tell the size from the photos. I'm wondering if the rules still move you to prepared class for wheels with a different size, or width? I don't know if I could afford the consequences for racing an SVX, but it would be fun. Now if you could just sneak in a JDM transmission (maybe one of our AU friends could help) - I think that would cut lap times a good bit. Again, Paisan - my hat is off to you - you should be proud - most excellent! |

I ran my street Yokohama AVS intermediates with a bit too little pressure so I had a lot of rollover. Next time I'll have to bump the pressures a bit. I did suffer one problem, in that the exhaust leak that I had errupted, so now I may need a new cat or something
I ran it in "2" the whole time, worked just peachy for me. This was a decent course for high HP cars I'd think. I was able to spin it 1x too Not sure if I'm gonna put it through the abuse all the time, but it was definitely good to see what it's got and shake things out on it. There are a few shots of it, that my buddy shot, so I should have pics soon -mike |

Also on the note of ATs not being good for auto-x I found it to be opposite. Same driver, driving the same course in an AT v. MT car the AT runs better (especially on tight courses) because 1st gear is much much longer than on an MT. With an MT you can't downshift to 1st in a tight corner whereas on an AT it will go down to 1st. There are always exceptions to that concept like the WRX where the AT can't get on boost as easily as the MT.

Great, you must be a natural! Soemthing you may want to be aware of if you run a track event after this;
The brake fluid resevoir will dump half of its contents out(due to heat and sideways g) with enthusiastic track driving. Auto-x doesnt seem to do this. At first I thought my brake lines had ruptured, but it hasn't lost any fluid since that event.
