drivetrain conversion questions

My car was converted from FWD to AWD by previous owner . It has the 4:41 drivetrain out of a 1998 ish Outback ( I presume ) . The guy I bought it from had no clue about any of the technicals, and no paperwork . So my questions - would the axles ( front and rear ) be SVX or Outback ? Is the Outback transmission as prone to overheating as the one it is replacing , or do the 4:41 gears mean the transmission is not working so hard ? Thanks, Kelly

Re: drivetrain conversion questions

The Outback transmission is tough, no problems. It's a 4:44. SVX is 3:545. It will have better acceleration but rev a bit higher on the highway. If it was done right, the rear differential gears were swapped and the limited slip is still functional. The axles should all be SVX still.
I had a '97 Outback transmission put in one of my '92s and it worked great.

I`m guessing since it was originally front wheel drive only, the rear differential would have come from the same vehicle as the front unit. The previous owner apparently kept no paperwork from the conversion , provided no information. That`s why I was curious if the inboard cv between the Outback and the SVX were the same or not. Thanks for your input
