Just bought a SVX

I've been hanging around the boards (SVX-less) for a couple of months now, but now have an SVX of my own. I just purchased Michael Lai's 1995 Ebony 5speed and put it through the ultimate test drive; I drove it from Rockford, IL to Knoxville, TN in 9.5 hours. The trip was 663 miles and I made great time. The cruise control was set between 79 & 83 MPH practically the whole way and I averaged 26.9 MPG and 26.7 on my two fill-ups.
I never imagined that this car would sip gas (my previous car, a 02' WRX, averaged 21 - 22 MPG under similar driving conditions). I love this car! Now I understand the cult following (albeit small cult). With the Stebro exhaust, the sound is pure Porsche 911 on steroids (I know, to some on the boards, that's an insult to the Suby, so for that I apologize).
I hope to keep this car alive and well for a long time to come. I have a mechanical and auto racing engineering backround and intend on making some neat parts for the car, which I will share as time and development allows. I'm sure I'll also have some noob questions, so please be kind!
Glad to be a member.

Thumbs up Welcome!

Good to see it's still in the family (this site) after getting sold.

Not to rain on your parade, but compared to the WRX, you won't find much for bolt on goodies for the SVX.

It's pretty much a make your own parts kinda proposition.

I think SVXes are migratory...they seem to move from one end of the country to the other quite often.

Life route of mine - NYC - Vermont - Minesota - and now recently, Texas.

Enjoy your SVX. Searching the threads, you should find the answer to just about every question that could be asked for these cars.

You're not raining on my parade; I already know that the tuner market and aftermarket is VERY limited compared to the WRX and just about everything outside of a Delorean. That doesn't mean we can't get creative with interior fixes, seat swaps, and other various hybrid solutions for replacement parts that are getting scarcer and scarcer.

I am a pessimistic optimistic. I think the worst is going to happen, that way when it does, i don't feel as bad, but if the best happens, i am twice as happy.

Re: Re: Welcome!

I totally agree.

With my one product, (front bumper cover), I am one of the aftermarket companies making SVX stuff. I hope to have the second ready in a month or two (side skirts), and farther off, who knows...

I think it's more satisfying to build something yourself than to buy it.

Good luck, and be sure to show us what you're up to.

Gads,
Welcome to the SVX "family". You should look up the others members down in your neck of the woods - Aredubjay being a good starting point!

My Bad!

I Knew it was a 92', my typing skills (or is it my brain) tend to waver at times. I've already crawled underneath and found where the driver's side cat contatcs the new tranny crossmember. Since the stock Y-pipe looks pretty corroded, I'll probably just fab a new y-pipe with two high flow cats and dump the third cat. I'll take pictures along the way and post the results. Otherwise, I LOVE this car. Thanks for selling it to me, Michael.
