JDM has speed limiter HELP ME!

My JDM Alcyone SVX has electronic fuel shut-off at 180 km/h (113 mph)! Anyone know how I can get rid of it?

That limiter is required by law on all cars in Japan. That being said, the only way to safely remove it is by getting an upgraded ECU for your car. I'm not sure what JDM companies offer chips for the SVX over there...

I don't know, but would a US ecu work on your car? Are the pinouts the same?

I know Prova and Flatt-Racing both have ecu's for JDM SVXs. And it wouldn't cost you an arm and a leg for shipping like it would for most of us (not that they work with USDM SVXs anyways...)

What are the chances of some shop installing something that would do this while being worked on?

And what's with that uber fuzzy pic?

I used the camera on my cell phone. Not exactly the best quality, huh?

You could try ECUtunes stage 1v4 chip, but I have no idear if it would work in a JDM SVX ECU.

Unless I'm terribly mistaken, I see the needle tapping 160.
Is that what I see?
Why is it white?

I'm not sure if the ECUTune Stage 1 chip would work in non USDM cars. There was an Aussie member who bought one and installed it on his car and got a CE light.

It is very likely that their cars aren't as detuned as ours due to less strict emissions requirements. Plus, those JDM SVXs use a different awd system that splits torque under normal driving conditions at 50/50 as opposed to 90/10.

I would look into a Flatt Racing or Prova chip as BordeauxComet suggested...

It's just a bad photo. JDM Alcyone's have a 0 - 180 km/h speedometer guage, and the photo, though crude, shows the needle pegged at 180. Next time, I'll be mindful to have a better quality camera than the commodity on my cell phone.

I guess it's time to search around flatt racing for speed limiter defense.

Thanks for the help y'all!

Removing the speed limiter is easier and cheaper than you think. You don't need to replace the ECU. I've done it twice now and tested that it works . Read this:

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...&threadid=6784

All you need to do is use a pulse converter chip (frequency divider) to slow down the pulses from the speed sensor to the ECU. So the ECU thinks that the car is going slower than it really is.

Just follow steps 1, 2 and 3 of the instructions.

You may then want to try and find a european speedometer which will read higher than 180km/h.

Phil.

I never thought that the USDM SVX would have an advantage over the JDM Alcyone!

Great looking car and good luck Strider!
