Aprox total
I was at a car show last night (BTW the car drew more attention than the Viper it sat next to ) A question was asked "how many are still on the road." I answered a lot considering only 25,000 were made and 14,000 were in the USA .When you look back at how many Mustangs were made or Barracudas etc. ( 170,000 or more ) and you see how many are still around I estimated 4,000 SVX on the road. What would you answer...? Any one want to take a guess?

Re: Aprox total
Since that was almost a year ago 4,500 or so would be a good guess.

Re: Aprox total
The number of partouts lately is startling.

Re: Aprox total
I'm thinking it may be smart to start stockpiling key parts that are certain to fail / break somewhere between now (185,000 kms or 115,000 miles) and 350,000 kms (200,000 miles).
Maybe some of you can help me make a list ? water pump alternator ignition stuff what else ? I've already replaced radiator, shocks, alternator, timing belt, valve covers, MAF (and I think I remember replacing the water pump). I'm planning on keeping mine for another 20 years. |

Re: Aprox total
I personally like the "parts out" idea.
Sometimes in the future when I will be compelled to look for a "used part", because the one I need will be NLA new, a "parts out" might provide what I need and could be a blessing. Also getting the SVX's "off the road" that are in such a bad condition mechanically and ill kept in general that it continues to give the SVX a bad name, is not all bad. Lastly, the more of those that bight the dust, the better it is for the few of us that have SVX's in mint condition. Two of mine fit the previous category... the third has 200,000 miles on it but is still a fantastic drive! It now only needs a "bit of cosmetic renewal" which it is in the process of getting! Please, get the "bad ones" off the road, the sooner the better! Keith |
