"Bucking" At 40 MPH-60 MPH -1992 SVX

August 7, 2010
Saturday

Hello Everyone,

I am experiencing an unusual engine engine miss, or what I would describe as a "bucking" between 40 MPH and 60 MPH.

I purchased my 1992 "pearlie" in May 2007 from the original owner. At the time, my SVX had 124,XXX.

At 117,XXX miles, the original equipment transmission was replaced with a genuine Subaru Remanufactured Transmission by a Subaru dealer in Pittsburgh, PA. The moment I purchased the car, I had a transmission cooler professionally installed. Later, that professionally installed transmission cooler was upgraded (re-routed) by in West Virginia.

My car now has 135,XXX. My 1992 "pearlie" has had the best of care, both from the original owner and myself.

I do NOT think my problem is related to the Subaru SVX automatic transmission.

My car is located in Carroll, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. I am returning to Carroll, Ohio (the Columbus, Ohio area) on 17 AUG with my nine (9) year old grandson.

I have an appointment scheduled for 8:00AM on 18 AUG with an independent garage highly recommended by my son-in-law and others. This gentleman is NOT a Subaru specialist.

Besides returning with six (6) NGK Iridium spark plugs, I do NOT know what else to bring with me.

I have been told by Tom in West Virginia that their are no "read out " codes available for the first four (4) model years
(1992-1995) of SVX production.

I realize their are three (3) different Subaru OEM part numbers for the six separate coil packs. I am reluctant to purchase these coil packs, as I do NOT know if one of my coil packs is defective, and if one coil pack is defective, which one it may be.

The engine starts and idles beautifully. However, between approximately 40 MPH and 60 MPH, a "bucking" occurs. Thereafter, it runs smoothly between 60 MPH and 90 MPH.

I have always purchased 91 octane premium fuel. In Pittsburgh, PA and in Ohio, at my two most recent fill-ups, I have purchased 93 octane Sunoco. Additionally, I always use one bottle of Chevron Pro-Gard with each fill-up, which I purchase at Costco in a six bottle box. Additionally, Tom in West Virginia has replaced my engine fuel filter with a genuine Subaru fuel filter.

Tom is sending an OEM Subaru SVX MAF Sensor (used MAF Sensor) to my friend in Ohio. This MAF Sensor has been removed from his Subaru SVX racecar. The reason he removed it from his engine was to upgrade his engine for high performance useThe MAF Sensor he is sending to me is "as new."

I understand the MAF Sensor is simple to replace. However, I do NOT live in Ohio, nor do I have any tools in Ohio.

I have heard of the MAF Sensor, however I do not know the location of the MAF Sensor. If I knew the location of the MAF Sensor, I am uncertain whether I would know how to replace it!

As I am "computer challenged," I would much prefer receiving a phone call than attempting to find your response on the SVX World Network. I am able to make or receive free calls on my cell phone on weekends. and you are also probably able to do so. I have Verizon as my carrier, if you are unable to telephone me this weekend.

My email address is: howardgsinger@sbcglobal.net

If anyone from the Columbus, Ohio area would be able to change the MAF Sensor (for me) which is being sent from Tom in West Virginia to my friend in Carroll, Ohio (the location of my SVX), I would be most appreciative.

Your cooperation is most appreciative. Many thanks for everything.

All the very best,
Howard

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the angle sensor.
