how to disable the ABS

Has anyone disabled their ABS? I just want to disable the ABS ECU and theoretically normal braking should still be functional. Just wanted to see if anyone done this before?

Thanks and please no debate about ABS functionality and all that.

Re: how to disable the ABS

Just pull the fuse. The ABS light will stay on though. I've been driving my '92 with no ABS and the light on for 8 years.

Re: how to disable the ABS

Same as above, pulled fuse, removed right from gauge cluster, didnt work after the manual swap anyway. ABS on older subarus is far more hindrance than it is help.

Is loss of ABS a normal consequence of a manual swap? My light came on after swapping my car but I just assumed I had goofed something up and never got around to fixing it.

Ours works on our 5MT SVX. Bought converted so no clue why it works on ours.

Depends on the axle shafts I think, some subaru's have the tone rings on on the axle instead of on the hub so I think they may have been interfering. Doesnt matter at this point, when it did work ABS also most caused me to wreck more times than it saved me.

Ok, I pulled the 20A fuse so thank you for the confirmation. I'm heading to go skiing in the morning and hoping this issue is behind me until I figure out what's wrong with the right rear wheel sensor.

Thank you.
