O/T The stable is getting bigger
Picked up my new Justy today. She's not the prettiest and has a definate shake from 50-55mph and then from 80mph plus but she hums along better than my Brat. Here's the best part. Including PA taxes, tags, and registration the total price was $121.50 .
The guy I got it from had an RX, Brat and Legacy there and asked me if I wanted to take a look at his rally car in the back garage. It was a fully set up stock Impreza Club rally circuit car. I am so jealous!!!

Cool to see someone here getting that deal. $50 is hard to beat for any car that runs I suppose though
It would have been mine if I didn't live 1400 miles away

$150 for everything is an incredible deal for a car that would be a good winter beater! I once paid $300 for an '88 Mazda 626 (no rust or dents and nearly perfect interior) and drove it for almost 3 years. When it died due to a blown hose (motor overheated and wouldn't run for longer than 5 minutes at a stretch) it had 313,000+ miles on it.
I hope yours lasts as long as mine did! Viva Cheap Cars!!!

$50 Justy
Yeah, my goal is to drive it to my wintertime job at a ski resort about 45 miles away on the weekends. After that. I plan to make a rally car/ autoxer out of her. She's actually quite fast for a 3 banger. She'd leave my Brat in the dust. Had her up to 90 already but the tires need a little work.

I saw a real Mini in Annapolis, MD this weekend. Decked out with a roll cage, nearly slick autocross tires and everything...So I figure if the manufacturer, Advan, makes 10" race tires, I should be able to find 12" tires for the Justy. I was thinking, for autocrossing, what wheel/tire size I should switch to for less tire roll. The 12" tires are, I think, 65s. So if I switched to like a 14", would I get 55s to maintain the same OD?

I'll get another neon a few years from now, and I'll make you all kiss its tires. - Ca$h |

And where you gonna get that from? A few years form now every Neon will be in a yard with all the other junk. I would LOVE to see you take that off road. Hee hee. I'd give it about a week before it rattled itself into a million pieces. Keep in mind, once you've replaced everything that needed to be replaced you could no longer call it a neon!

It'll be a coupe, 5 spd. I'll put in a 2.4 from a stratus, iceman intake, cheap tuner exhaust, UDP, new clutch, Konis, strut braces, some R/T seats, and get the whole thing painted orange. Prolly some mopar Xrate springs too. But it'll hava rebel flag on top, 01 on the doors, and a dixie horn. It'll freakin OWN at autocross too, with some falken axenis or whatever. FEEL THE WRATH OF EXTREMELY CHEAP FWD PERFORMANCE RAH!

Mine idles really rough when it's warm outside. In the cold the car runs perfectly. A local Subaru service manager told me that it might be due to a faulty ignition component - one that is apparently sensitive to heat. I know that he told me it was a common Justy problem, but I forget which component he told me it might be. I have Sears tires on my Justy. Guardsman or something like that... They were $25 apiece and have really really deep lugs. Great in the snow and offroad. Maybe I should buy a couple extra sets for spares in case Sears discontinues the model. But I wonder if I can fit a more common wheel size with a real short sidewall for street stuff. Other things I want to find out: What aftermarket struts will fit in the front. What shocks will fit in the rear. What diameter the clutch is so I can put in a slightly better one. Oh, and I need a tach. That's starting to drive me nuts. I suppose I could put a gauge cluster on the a-pillar. Really, I have no idea what RPMs I'm shifting at. Torque seems to top out at the gear number times 20mph (1st tops out at 20mph, 2nd at 40mph, etc...), but what the hell engine speed is that, I wonder. I don't think the engine has a rev limiter.

Tach
Hee hee. Mine even came with a tach for $50. Granted the seats suck compared to the later ones (I actually have metal coming through) It kinda reminds me of a 50s truck seat.

87/88 Justy's have 145/80/12 tires
89+ have 165/65/13 185/55/14 would be a good match 205/50/13 would also be a good match 175/50/13 would lower the car about an inch (out of 6.1") My 88 Justy made it to 99mph with a tailwind. Should be able to make it to high 80's consistently. The rattle you are all probably feeling at 55-60mpg is most likely the drive shaft or more specifically the u-joints. They can only be replaced as a whole unit with the drive shaft. My dad modified mine to accept u-joints from a toyota something or other. Aftermarket shocks/struts??? (good luck ) My stock clutch with 150,000+ miles had the same thickness as the brand new (non-OEM) one I replaced it with. Speed @ 3500RPM (from memory) 1st - 12mph 2nd - 24mph 3rd - 37mph 4th - 51mph 5th - 65mph

I,v actually toyed with the idea of a midengine Justy, Legacy turbo moter behind the front seats, gas tank and radiater in the front. I started making it i have the Justy, I have the drivetrain, I don't have the time. Plus I don't really need another prodject.
But it would be cool stock looking Justy to the untrained eye. Imagine the suprise to the guy just blew away, the humiliation, the awe, the donuts and smoke shows. Maybe i'll finish it someday.
