Dropped it off at the body shop again. They will be working on the passenger side well again. So jealous of you all with southern cars, you have no idea.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Warped my front rotors doing some spirited driving over the weekend... (the drilled & sloted ones)
New front rotors and pads tomorrow 9:30am..

3 years on these brakes, which is not to bad for how I drive it.

Might be going back to his Mustang glory days, when everything worked and parts (and chicks) were easy to get

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

It's been a looong winter.
Today I had the whole day off so tackled a list of minor tweaks on my buddy Bob's superb 1992 Pearl White.
Replaced every function & illumination lamp in the dashboard pushbuttons and the overhead console - only three function bulbs were still working.
Bob has a blank on each bank because no seatheater or Security option...on a Quebec Canadian SVX?

Then I adjusted his sunroof as it would get stuck opening and needed a push to close and shifted the gasket so it meets flush on the edge.

Been waiting all winter to tweak it while I've been driving mine all winter on the 'nice' days.

I wrote about Bob's unique SVX previously and the picture shows why it is.
An original Trois Rivieres Quebec dealer parade & showroom display car, the original paint is flawless except for one chip on the roof. The dealer jazzed up the car in 1997 with a 97 grill, chromed all the engine/radiator brackets, painted the roof Liquid Silver to match the smart alloys and had the trunk and garnishes painted White Pearl. Professionally done, you'd be hard pressed to detect it ain't original. The paint looks like you could dip a finger in it and taste it. Bob has all the records back to 1992 since the car passed through the same family.
Next tweak is to remove and clean the power antenna since it sticks up 3".

My own score of the day was making a connection (thanks to my CAA guy) with a shop guy 30 minutes away that will clean and powdercoat my graphite black summer wheels whatever color I wish.
I like to have two sets of wheels/rubber to swap. The silver winter rims that came with the car must have banged hard in to a curb at some point (1/8" deflection on passenger pair) and the rubber was date-coded 2006. The CAA shop couldn't balance them and detected the warps. He set me up with some fine-looking silver 7-spoke FAST wheels that same day and new WinterForce rubber on special all for less than $600 last October. So naturally CAA is the first place I went to for help with my dilemma.

See. the excellent one year old summer alloys (17" 6-spoke ROTA Boost) w 2012 rubber are black and I couldn't bear to put them back on a black/black car - too oppressive to my eye. Nor did I want to swap the rubber onto the winter 7-spokes or go the rattlecan route.
I had resolved to pay whatever to buy new silverish alloys and have them shod with the 2012 summer rubber. Well, decent and stylish 5 & 6 spoke alloys would have set me back minimum $800 plus balancing, etc and that's when my guy suggested his buddy that powdercoats like new. There is no curb rash on my ROTAs so all he has to do is clean off the old weights, prep 'em and powdercoat bake for about $40 per each.
Having the summer rubber taken off this week so all he has to deal with are the rims and I'll have CAA mount & balance & install them when I have a half day. No place to put all 4 wheels in the SVX trunk and I want him to see the car they are going on. I'll transport the rubber and new alloys to CAA in the Outback when ready and do a little Subaru Tag-Teaming to get the winter wheels home.
Taking them in in a week to have the deed done over two days.
Pics show Bob's 92 next to my 97 - with my winter wheels on.
2nd pic is the graphite black alloys I'm changing the color of.

Coincidentally, this coming Sunday (USA Memorial Day weekend) is the first big Charity Car Show along the banks and on the soccer field of Stratford Ontario's Victoria Lake and the weather promises to be all sunny but cool. We're going to have both SVX's there. Waxed & polished my 97 this morning with liquid Black Carnuba which does not dry white and actually does disguise roadrash chips.
