Ran out of gas ::: stalling :(

What an idiot I am. I ran out of gas the other day.......not the car stalls out now and then. I replaced the gas filter, seemed ok, ......but now is stalling again.

I figured it was the filter. What else can I do?

Thanks

Tapper

If it's not the fuel filter, then I would guess it's the fuel pump. I ran out once as well a couple of years ago and it ran just fine after refilling the tank, didn't even change the filter. I do however, use fuel system cleaner regularly, so maybe that helped to keep the tank clean and sediments to a minimum.

I wish I had used fuel system cleaner...I never have. Do you think the fuel pump is clogged or just just starting to malfuction. (I suppose if it can't be cleaned, it doesn't matter either way)

I seem to recall reading in the forums that the SVX's fuel pump is partially cooled by the gas in the tank. I ran out of gas in the middle of really cold winter day. If your situation occurred during a hot summer day, then I suppose it might be possible that the pump could be damaged.

definatly try a strong cleaner. toulene. x???lene something like those. do a search. i run the toulene once every 3 to 6 months before trips for better gas mileage and clensing. u can buy at home depot or lowes or any hardware store. just mix with a gulp of tranny fluid and filler up. for specs i think its a gallon can.

I doubt that running out of gas would affect anything. The pump takes fuel from the bottom of the tank all the time, so running out would not cause sediments to be sucked up. The stalling is probably related to something else. Maybe the MAF meter.

So its just a myth that sediment may be sucked up when you run out of gas.??? It has never stalled once before I had ran out of gas and I have had her a few years. (that is way I thinks its related, but am willing to consider other possibilties)

Today I drove her hard trying to clear any blockages. It seemed to be going very well. Then was I was just cruising along real easy.....stalled right out at 60 mph. I put in nuetral and a quick turn of the key started right up and put back in drive and hit the accelerator and seemed ok.
